What a fucking shit show. This is really the most important election of my lifetime. Backstory. I got a Gold plan. Premium (monthly payment) has gone up 10% this year and my deductible is up 25%. That sucks but I can live with that. I want health insurance and am grateful I am able to afford it. Last month I traveled upstate to help take care of an elderly family member who has since passed. I missed my payment, completely forgot. My fuck up. Once I got home I went on the website to make a payment but if you are late just one day they terminate your account and you cannot make a payment. Also should be mentioned that it does not allow you set up direct deposit which could have avoided this entire mess. Now this is where the fun starts. I call my provider and I am told they will have to call me back and that it would take a day or two. So I wait. I dont get a call back. I finally get someone after half hour on some automated line and I am told that my provider cannot reinstate me and that I have to go through the New York State of Health bc my plan was terminated. This doesn't make any sense to me but I figure that it is just some big government bureaucratic mess and that if I am patient enough I can sift my way through it and come out the other end. Wrong. I call the NYSH and I am told that my account shows I am enrolled in a plan and there is no cancellation. However, bc we are not in "open enrollment" the navigator cannot access my account to change anything. She was nice. I explained my situation to her and she filed a report and gave me some reference number. But ultimately she said my provider is the one that has to reinstate me and that I need to contact them. Now I start to doubt that I will be able to weed myself through this mess. I say a prayer and call my provider back. Surely something could be done. The goal of the ACA was to provide health care, right? Wrong again. My provider tells me that I am fucked. Since I was terminated I cannot get in a health plan until the next open enrollment which is like October. Why? Because I do not have a qualifying event. A qualifying event is a child birth, job loss, etc. Basically I could lie and commit fraud to get health insurance if I wanted to. If I told her I lost my job they would give my insurance. If I was willing to lie and say I was poor they would give me medicaid. Literally no questions asked. In fact I was asked about 5 times during the interview if I "needed help" paying for insurance or if I am registered to vote. This is a topic for another thread but the fucking handouts we give are a fucking joke. So just to make this clear I am 30 years old and have never been arrested. I pay taxes and try ( ) to live a responsible life. I may have done a recreational drug or two. But b.c I was late on a payment and I am not willing to commit fraud I will not have health insurance until October. Obama's America. Im sorry but this is political. And now it has gotten personal for me. I now have true disdain for the ACA and everyone involved. This ACA is a complete shit show I fully support anyone that wants to take a nuke to it and blow it to fucking pieces. I dont care how bad the system was before, this is way worse. Where is the common sense? Where? I am contemplating calling them all back up and recording the conversations just so I can upload it to SoundCloud or something for people to listen to bc I am sure that there will be some that wont believe me. Sorry for the long read but I am so grateful that we have a place to vent here. P.S. You guys wanna take bets on whether or not I get hit with the penalty for not having insurance?

You should record it (for quality and training purposes) and upload it. Shine a light on it. That is the beauty of the internet.

Insurance companies are still in control and the ACA definitely needs to be updated. Pay on time this isn't an issue, right?

Maybe if people are late on a car payment for a day they shouldnt be able to drive their cars for a year. That would help with global warming. And if you think the insurance companies are in control then you didnt read my post.

Sorry for the long read but I am so grateful that we have a place to vent here. P.S. You guys wanna take bets on whether or not I get hit with the penalty for not having insurance? ouch. i feel your pain. it sucks to live in a socialist state, as you are finding out. basically obozocare only shifted the winners in healthcare from one group to another and laid all of the costs on we the people. the morons just didn't seem to understand that we essentially had "free" health care prior to obozo. remember obozo's claim that 38 million americans didn't have it? well what he actually said was they idn't have health insurance. so the demotards led by pelosi and reid came up with their cronyism plan to force we the people to have health insurance. think about this. they made it a law that every american buy something. how about if they told you to buy a particular car or house in a particular neighborhood. i digress. and their claim was that by having a larger pool of insured people the health care costs would go down. well, what has happened, they've risen. unless your employer can self insure or pay more into the plan your costs have gone up. and to top it off, companies that provide health care above the gold plans get penalized. of those 38 million people who didn't have health care before, 25 million still don't. and in spite of being mandatory it was also possible to enroll in a plan at any time so just before you get that heart surgery you could enroll. finally, the illegals can still get health care as before and we pay for them. no there is no illegal problem. 11 million illegals don't impact our resources at all, not. and you know, on the face of it, obozocare sounds like it could have been a decent plan. but one thing that has really troubled me is if everyone has health care then why do we need to pay for health care in out car insurance? it seems to me health care is health care and no matter how one gets injured they will get patched up. our car insurance premiums should have been lowered as a result of obozocare. they haven't. the bottom line is obozo, pelosi and reid effectively have been destroying the middle class. obpzocare is one of the tolls they crafted to get more money out of us and direct it to their cronies. they all need to be shown the door. as for your problem, good luck. i hope you don't have any chronic conditions or are in good health.

I do have a chronic condition but luckily it is not that serious. I am anemic (thalassemia) and see a hematologist about twice a year. Thankfully I dont need any treatment outside of the blood and urine tests.
Maybe I'll take the $620/month I am saving and make my first ever campaign contributions.

Insurance companies are still in control and the ACA definitely needs to be updated. Pay on time this isn't an issue, right? The fact that they cant handle direct deposit, to me, is another example of how they rushed this shit show called the ACA into production before it was ready for prime time. People have things come up, crisis situations, or simply forget for a day, and then you have NO coverage until October. Makes total sense . I guarantee they'll try to fine him for having no insurance come next tax time.

Not to mention, the people this is supposed to be helping, many of them are living paycheck to paycheck already, and probably paying right around when each payment is due, certainly not in advance, so one glitch, one issue causing a late payment, and you're dropped. Great system.

Great system. If they drop you do you have to pay a penalty for not having insurance? Seems like a catch-22. We won't let you sign up again until October but we will fine you for not having it. Otherwise, if they don't fine you and you don't want to pay for health insurance can't you just miss a payment on purpose to get dropped?

Why do you think they dont extend Obama care to all public employees. That would fix the problem as it would provide all the needed volume. But they wont. yet you will be lectured , right here, on the benefits of the plan. You my friend, are simply not a large enough voting block. But the poor are....

Great system. FWIW you dont make payments to the healthcare.gov site or the newyorkstateofhealth site. You pay your company directly. They were able to save my information (so when someone hacks them they can get it) but did not offer to automate a schedule. I dont know why that is the case but either way it doesnt really matter. I am not even mad about being terminated. You buy insurance before you are insured. That is how is works. And that is how it should work. But being locked out of the system for almost a year and not being able to buy insurance makes absolutely no fucking sense. United Health just announced that they are backing out of the exchanges in many states. And there are reports that it is costing the insurance companies much more than they even projected. And the people entering the system are much sicker and cost more to care for than those who have plans from there employer. SHOCKER!! money.cnn.com/2016/04/19/investing/unitedhealthcare-obamacare-exchanges-aca/index.html?section=money_topstoriesmoney.cnn.com/2016/03/30/news/economy/obamacare-patients-blue-cross-blue-shield/index.html?iid=EL

That seems like a lot to me for "affordable" health care. Thought the average was like 300 a month.

Next time just say you need help. I'm sure that's what many do. BTW - how much did you pay a month for obamacare? I know that would have been easy. And they make it very easy. I was offered "assistance" multiple times while I was on the phone. And asked if I was registered to vote. I am sure many people just take it. Even on the websites the first thing they ask you is if you want a subsidy. I am not some holier than-thou-person. I think it is bc in my naivete I want all the the people scamming the system to get punished. There are many different plans that come in tiers. Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. I had a gold plan. Ran me 620 a month. It was 560 the year before. The lowest plans I ever saw on the marketplace were in the high 200s so I dont know what Obama meant when he said "And the truth is that they can get coverage all for what it costs you to pay your cell phone bill.” And yes, that is a real quote. Maybe he wasnt referring to someone in the middle class who lived in New York. I dont know what the average plan costs. But what I do know is that the lower tier plans offer very little. There is very little value in any of the plans in my opinion. But insurance by nature is essentially a waste UNTIL the day you need it. And then you are thankful for it.
