So for him to get solidified in a spot and finally get some time, you know what, he was a tight end or fullback for a while, that athleticism that you spoke about, let him continue to get settled in playing the defensive front. He may not wow you with numbers, I don’t think he’s going to be a guy that’s all of a sudden going to be a double-digit sack guy in the NFL. But I think he’s got enough strength and ability to hold the point of attack and make a few plays running up and down the line of scrimmage. People will be intrigued by him a little bit.” Sirius XM NFL analyst Jim Miller: “Big guy that can move. Here’s a guy, when you look at Lawrence Thomas, he impressed everybody down at the Senior Bowl because he’s a big guy who’s an athlete. A lot of teams, I’ll bring up Seattle again, they’ve used guys like this and put them in different positions. They’ve taken defensive linemen and put them as offensive guards, they’ve taken defensive linemen and placed them at fullback, they even had an old tight end in (Garry) Gilliam who’s know a tackle out there in Seattle. So they want the athletes. They kind of project him (Thomas) into different positions. But I think Thomas now has found a home on the defensive side of the ball because he’s a big man; not only can he stop the run, but he has the ability to put a little pass rush on the quarterback as well because he’s such a versatile athlete.” detroit.cbslocal.com/2016/03/01/analysts-give-their-take-on-spartan-prospects-at-nfl-scouting-combine/

Who needs Fitz, we just added Ferris State QB Jason Vander Laan I've seen this kid referred to as a poor man's Tim Tebow. Mark my words, he'll be one of our starting TEs when the season starts.

LT project? Jake Steinberg (@steiny31) 4/30/16, 10:44 PM Virginia Union University OL Dahon Taylor to #Jets. Alex Khvatov: What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)? Dahon Taylor: 6″5, 300, 4.9. Dahon Taylor: My college career involved a lot of adapting. In Juco, I played tight end then when I got to Virginia Union I switched to left tackle. Alex Khvatov: What are your strengths? Dahon Taylor: In my game, my strengths are my athleticism and instincts. I carried over my movement skills from tight end. I move well in space and can play all over the field. My instincts help me feel out pass rush moves and blitzes. I always feel like I am a step ahead. www.nfldraftblitz.com/dahon-taylor-interview/Matt EstreichVerified account @mattnbc12 Apr 30 Dahon Taylor - offensive lineman from @vuupanthers - signed a free agent deal with the New York Jets. Was 1st team All-CIAA last fall. A man amongst boys..Granted it's lower level competition but look how athletic he is...He looks like Michael Oher in The Blind Side www.hudl.com/athlete/593798/highlights/325250385

Haven't the Jets brought in like 3 different kickers? And wouldn't we stand to save a fair amount of coin by cutting Folk? Not saying it will happen, but the guy is coming off a season ending injury. And I've honestly never thought he's as good as a lot of the fanbase makes him out to be. He's essentially slightly above the league norm.

And wouldn't we stand to save a fair amount of coin by cutting Folk? Had the same thought. We would save over $2 million by cutting Folk.

Mark my words, he'll be one of our starting TEs when the season starts. Jets are starting multiple TEs this season? Give us a scouting report Looks like he has the size and speed to play the position (6' 3 3/8" / 243# & 4.75 in the 40) but never played tight end before. Sounds like a practice squad player with potential. Here is a little video on him. He's playing QB but you can see him run with the ball several times and he looks pretty smooth. www.hudl.com/athlete/1331205/jason-vanderlaanAnd this his is from a Chicago Tribune article... Frankfort’s Jason Vander Laan worked out as a quarterback and tight end and it’s the latter that most NFL folks believe he’ll need to play for a chance to stick. Vander Laan won the Harlon Hill Award, named after the former Bears great, as the best Division II player in the country the last two years at Ferris State. He was the fourth player to ever win the award twice after throwing for 2,626 yards and 27 touchdowns and rushing for 1,542 yards and 24 touchdowns this past season. Jason Vander Laan Ferris State's Jason Vander Laan, a former standout at Chicago Christian, on Sept. 13, 2014. (Ferris State University / Handout) Vander Laan, who played at Chicago Christian High School in Palos Heights, measured 6-foot-3 3/8 and 243 pounds and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.75 and 4.83 seconds. He had an impressive three-cone drill in 6.73 seconds. “He’s Tim Tebow 2.0,” said one scout in attendance. “Same offense. Same throwing motion. He’s going to have to play H-back.” That scout came away relatively impressed with what Vander Laan did on the field with NU players as he worked out in tight end drills and quarterback drills. “He looked a little more natural running routes than what you might think having never played tight end,” the scout said. “Little stiff and a few drops but you expect that because he’s not accustomed to tracking the ball. You could take him to camp as a developmental player and see if he does enough to stay on the practice squad.” Vander Laan, who has been working out with Chip Smith in Atlanta since January, maintains the goal of being drafted and takes the Tebow comparison as a compliment. He’s been doing work as a tight end and quarterback in preparing for the draft. He will also perform at the Central Michigan pro day March 17. “My first couple years I heard that a lot,” Vander Laan said. “As I progressed through my junior and senior year that stopped coming around as much. I think I throw a lot better than Tim Tebow did and there are a lot of things in my passing game that’s better than is, I think. And I am also willing to play another position, one thing that may have hurt him. I will take any compliment people anyone wants to give me in whatever form. “I’m going to take any opportunity I get. Being here today, it seems like more teams are looking at me as an H-back. They seem to be leaning more that way. With my testing and positional work, I think there is a good chance I get drafted. Especially this year with the tight end class, it isn’t that good.” www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/ct-northwestern-dan-vitale-shines-pro-day-20160308-story.html
