I guess moving up all the way to 20 wasn't an option? Wouldn't that have been nice to have those extra picks. Why doesnt anyone ever trade down with the jets?
"The Denver Broncos weren’t the only team that tried to come up and get Memphis product Paxton Lynch. Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said the team made “a big push” to get back into the first round – one that a person with knowledge of the talks said it included offering high second- and fourth-round picks (Nos. 34 and 101 overall) to Seattle for the 26th pick. Instead, the Seahawks took Denver’s offer of low first- and third-round picks (Nos. 31 and 94), leaving the Cowboys to pursue Tony Romo’s potential successor another time, perhaps in Rounds 2 through 7. (They also need a backup, and a trade for someone like the Los Angeles Rams’ Nick Foles before draft’s end wouldn’t be a big surprise.)"

If it's any consolation Jerruh lost sleep over it
"I got to bed about 3 thinking about the Lynch thing, got up at 6 and before the morning was over had talked to six people about how I messed it up," Jones said Saturday. "I was still mad about it the next morning."

Just think if he'd succeeded, Jaylon Smith would probably be a Patriot right now. It's better this way.

If he was Jerry's personal favorite, makes me even happier we passed.

So they did try to move up to 20! Mac didn't budge. The myth that' no one will trade up with us is just that
@drewfromjersey not a rumor. Cowboys offered 34/67 for 20. Covered in MMQB by King - he was in the room with Dallas

In my opinion if you take a QB in the first round, he better be a can't miss guy. Anyone who would drop out of the top 5 picks is not a can't miss guy. Given this statement, there have been some noticeable failures selecting in the top 5 and conversely, some lightning in the bottle picks later in the draft, e.g., Brady, Wilson and others. A pick like taking Hack is a roll of the dice for the Jets. However, sometimes the team needs to take that risk versus taking a can't miss lineman. Any team taking Lynch around the 20th pick is a very high risk/high reward situation.

i don't love that deal for the jets. move out of the first round, get an early 2nd and early 3rd round pick? Agreed - that's too far down. Especially if you believe the notion that most teams had high grades on about 15 players and then the next 30 or so were all lumped together. I suspect, the Jets had Lee graded in the top 15 and didn't want to drop that far down.

Supposedly the Jets tried to move up to get Lee. Not sure if that's true but they may have had him ranked very high.
