May 1, 1984
In 1984, the draft began on May 1. The Jets had two top 15 picks, but managed to whiff on both. The 10th pick was their own, coming off of a 7-9 1983 season, and they also had the 15th pick, acquired in a trade with the New Orleans Saints. The Jets shipped Richard Todd off to NO for the Saints first round pick. There are some solid contributors on the list. Jim Sweeney and Kyle Clifton were both very good long term Jets and Tony Paige and Harry Hamilton both went on the have nice NFL careers with the Jets and other teams. But it is hard to call a draft a good draft when you turn two top 15 picks into Russell Carter and Ron Faurot.
