The 2014 draft would take place over the course of 3 days in 2014, beginning on this day, May 8. The Jets had 12 picks in that draft: their 7 picks, an extra 4th round pick from Tampa from the Darrelle Revis deal in 2013, and 4 comp picks, a 4th rounder and 3 6ths. The only pick the Jets made on May 8, was their first rounder, Louisville Safety, Calvin Pryor. After a disappointing rookie season, he had a solid sophomore campaign and looks like he will be a contributor in Coach Bowles' defense. Still, the Jets were desperately in need of offensive playmakers and passed on players like Brandin Cooks and Jason Matthews. In the second round, they selected TE Jace Amaro, passing on playmakers like Jarvis Landry and Allen Robinson. Here it is, the Idzik 12:
1. Calvin Pryor, Safety, Louisville. 29 career games, 23 starts, 2 Ints, 1 forced fumble
2. Jace Amaro, TE, Texas Tech. 13 career games, 4 starts, 38 receptions, 1 season missed to injury
3. Dexter McDougle, CB, Maryland. 14 career games, 0 starts, 1 season missed to injury
4. Jalen Saunders, WR, Oklahoma, waived by Jets in September of his first season, 0 receptions as a Jet
4. Shaquelle Evans, WR UCLA. 1 season missed to injury. Waived September 2015. 0 receptions.
4. Dakota Dozier, OL, Furman. 1 redshirt season. 4 game appearances as back-up
5. Jeremiah George, LB, Iowa State. Signed off Jets practice squad in September 2014 by Jacksonville.
6.Brandon Dixon, CB, NW Missouri State. Signed by Tampa of Jets practice squad in September 2014.
6. Quincy Enunwa, WR, Nebraska. 13 game appearances, 6 starts, 22 receptions, 315 yards.
6.IK Enempkali, DE, Louisiana Tech. 6 games as a Jet, 1 KO. Signed by Buffalo in Aug 2015.
6.Tajh Boyd, QB, Clemson. Waived 8/30/14.
7. Trevor Reilly, LB, Utah. 29 games played. Core special teams player.
There it is, the Idzik 12. 2 of the 12 were gone before the start of their rookie years (Boyd & Dixon). 2 did not make it through the first month of their rookie season with the team(Saunders & George). 2 (Evans and Enempkali) did not make it through their 2nd training camp. 4 will probably be fighting for their Jet lives during this preseason (McDougle, Dozier, Enunwa & Reilly). Jace Amaro will likely have a chance to prove he belongs this season.
Out of the 12, only 1 player has established himself as a solid pro. Just about anyone on this board could have done better.
