May 16, 1991QB Tony Eason's 18 month tenure as a JEt came to an end on this date, May 16, in 1991. Eason was claimed by the Jets in Nov 1989 after he was placed on waivers from the Patriots. He began 1989 as the Pats starter, but was released midway throught he season after falling to 4th on their depth chart behind Steve Grogan, Marc Wilson and Doug Flutie. After being claimed by the Jets, Eason refused to report for a week, finally agreeing to join the team at the urging of his close friend Ken O'Brien. Eason would be pressed into action, starting two games for the Jets in the 1989 season both losses: 38-14 to the Rams and 37-0 to Buffalo. He backed up O'Brien during the 1990 season when the Jets finished 6-10. After being released by the Jets in 91 he became a free agent, but was unable to catch on anywhere, ending his career after the 1990 season.

take a sack tony. he was never the same after he got roughed up by the bears in 86. Had to be the worst start ever for a QB in a Super Bowl. Didn't complete a pass, 0-6, 3 sacks, 1 fumble before giving way to Steve Grogan in the 2nd quarter. I still consider that 85 Bears defense to be the most dominant defense I have ever seen for one season. I had the opportunity to meet Dennis McKinnon, WR on that Bears team a few years ago. He told me that they knew they had certain teams beaten before the game because the QB was intimidated before they took the field. He told me Ken O'Brien was one of those guys. I remember freezing my ass off watching them beat the the Jets in Dec 85, 19-6. Miserable game. I left in the 3rd quarter -- only game I ever remember leaving that early.

Good QB at the University of Illinois nicknamed "Champaign Tony," that was his highpoint.
