May 19, 1960Today I am going way back. 56 years, before the Titan/Jet franchise ever played a game. On this date, 5/19/1960, the Titans signed free agent OG Bob Mischak. Mischak had played one season in the NFL, with the New York Giants in 1958 when the Titans added him to their inaugural roster. Mischak became an immediate starter. At the end of the season he became one of 6 Titans to be named AFL All Pro, but the only one to be named to the first team. He played 3 seasons for the Titans and another 3 with the Raiders before starting a long coaching career. He was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Army for 5 years before returning to the Raiders as tight end coach from 1973 - 87. The other All Pros from that first Titans team (all 2nd team) were DT Sid Youngelman, QB Al Dorow, WRs Don Maynard & Art Powell, and LB Larry Grantham.

pre dates me. he was in good company with maynard, and grantham. Pre dates me too, but only by a little bit. Good company with Art Powell too - was right up there with Maynard and Lance Alworth as the top receiving threats in the AFL, just didn't have the longevity of the other two guys. And, a Bob Mischak thread >>> a Mike Goodson thread, even if most of us have never seen him play.
