May 25, 1984The Jets had two first round picks in the 1984 draft, both in the top 15. On this date, May 25, in 1984, they signed the first of those two picks, SMU Safety Russell Carter, whom they chose with the 10th overall pick. Carter, who was moved to CB had a solid rookie season for the Jets, cracking the starting lineup by mid season and finishing the year with 4 interceptions, Unfortunately, his first season was his best as he never lived up to his draft slot. He played 4 seasons with the Jets before being traded to Oakland for a 6th round pick. The Jets second #1 in 1984, which they acquired from New Orleans for Richard Todd, was DE Ron Faurot out of Arkansas. Not much return on two top 15 picks that year.
