May 26, 1977
After several months of court battles, the Jets reached agreement with the City of NY, the NFL and the NY Mets to remain at Shea Stadium. Under the agreement, the Jets would be allowed to play at least two home games at Shea in both September and October beginning with the 78 season. Shea, which was owned by the City, was controlled by the Mets under the terms of their lease. The Mets had not allowed the Jets to play at Shea while the baseball season was still ongoing until the agreement was reached, on this day, May 26, in 1977. The Jets had been threatening a move to the Meadowlands and Giants stadium.
Under the agreement, the Jets were able to play one regular season game at the Meadowlands, the home opener in 1977 against the Colts. A game they lost 20-12.

the big issue with shea (besides the limited seating) was having to schedule around the mets. this front loaded the away games. maybe not so bad to have all of the home games at the end of the season. imo they're better off at met life although i was really wanting that west side stadium to be built.

Should have built a stadium in Queens or Nassau.
