June 4, 1994On this date, June 4, in 1994, the Jets signed future Hall of Fame WR, Art Monk. At the time, Monk, who had played 14 seasons with Washington, was the NFL's all time leading receiver with 888 receptions. At age 37, he would catch 46 passes for Pete Carroll's Jets in 1994 for 561 yards and 3 TDs. After his one season with the Jets, Monk would finish his career in 1995 with the Eagles, where he would catch just 6 passes in 3 games with Philly. His 940 career receptions are still good for #18 on the all time list.

This was the start of the Jets approach to the new FA rules - sign every over the hill veteran.

I did like the Ronnie Lott signing even though his best days were behind him. He would be hitting the crap out of people from start to finish, no matter what the score was.
