July 2, 2007The Jets signed UDFA punter Jeremy Kapinos. Kapinos was a Ray Guy finalist out of Penn State. He would be released prior to the start of the season, but would be signed to the Jets practice squad during the season as regular punter Ben Graham struggled. Kapinos would get his shot with the Jets in week 16 against Tennessee after Graham was benched following a terrible game in New England in which he shanked one punt and had another blocked, both setting up NE deep in NYJ territory and leading to 14 points. Kapinos punted well in a 10-6 loss. However, the 4 point margin was the result of a missed extra point and a missed FG by Mike Nugent with Kapinos as the holder. He would never play another game with the Jets. He was waived at the end of the season and signed with the packers during the 2008 season. He got the opportunity to punt against the Jets in 2010 as the punter for the Steelers in the AFCCG game after joining them mid season.

Good job Lith, you're really digging deep for stories like today's. Thanks -- actually I did have a couple of options today -- Sheldon was suspended on this date last year and Calvin Pace's suspension a few years ago came down on 7/2. Also, Calvin Pryor turns 24 today. Not sure what made me go with a UDFA punter. Maybe its because we have been struggling for so long to find one. But some of these days in late June and July are tough to find something.
