July 6, 1988In the 3rd round of the 1988 draft, the Jets selected Missouri DB Erik McMillan. On this date, July 6 in 1988, McMillan signed his rookie contract. He would go on to have a very strong rookie season, finishing the season with 8 interceptions, tops in the AFC. He became the first jet player to make the pro bowl each of his first two seasons. The highlight of his rookie season came in a six day span in October, when he had 4 interceptions off of future Hall of Famers. He had a pick 6 of Jim Kelly in a Monday Night loss to the Bills and then followed that up on the following Sunday with 3 interceptions (including another pick 6) in a 44-30 victory against Dan Marino and the Dolphins. Unfortunately, McMillan's career never lived up to the promise of those first two seasons. A public feud with HC Bruce Coslet saw him lose his starting job after the 1990 season. He left the Jets for Philly after the 92 season. The Eagles would waive him prior to the start of the 93 season.
