On this date, July 8 in 1964, the Jets acquired offensive guard Sam Deluca from the San Diego Chargers in exchange for cash condierations. Deluca played 3 seasons for the Jets including an All-AFL selection in 1966 before his career was derailed by injuries. When his playing career came to an end, he moved on to broadcasting. He got his first gig appearing on pre and post game telecasts for the Mets in 1968 & 69. I remember him as a radio voice of the Jets during the 1970s. He also did color commentary for NBC telecasts of the NFL in the 1970s.
