August 13, 1963On this date, way back in 1963, the Jets signed one of the great, underrated Jets of all-time, offensive tackle Winston Hill. Hill had been drafted by the Colts in the 11th round of the 1963 draft out of Texas Southern. The Colts released him on August 12, but the Jets wasted no time, signing him the very next day. He played in 195 consecutive games for the Jets, from 1963 to 1977, as a fixture on the offensive line, protecting Joe Namath's blind side until he moved over to RT in 1971. Hill was named to 8 Pro Bowls and was a 4-time All Pro. Winston was an original member of the Jets Ring of Honor. He is also in the AFL Hall of Fame and was named an All-Time All AFL 2nd team player. Sadly, he passed away earlier this year at the age of 74. The great Winston Hill. Became a Jet on this date, Aug 13, 1963. 53 years ago today.
