I am looking at it differently. At this point, I think Geno has likely made the 53 and will back up Fitz, unless Macc gets blown away by a trade offer. You don't want your top 2 QBs hurt, so you don't play them in game 4 of preseason. Hack will be on the 53 -- you don't cut 2nd round pick QB. Leaves Petty as the wild card. You play him tomorrow to give him one more chance to demonstrate that he has the upside to be a solid starter down the road. If he is impressive enough, maybe they keep 4 QBs. Or if there is any truth to the rumors that they are getting offers for Smith -- a Smith deal could hinge upon the Jets comfort level with Petty as a #2, so they may want to give him another look tomorrow night. And see....I'm looking at if from a different perspective. Sure....you don't want your 2nd QB to get hurt....but there were a lot of reps split this off season in TC between Geno and Petty. Maybe the decision to keep Petty as #2 has already been made, but they want to get him a few more game time reps because they were split so much in practice and the other pre-season games. This also sends a message to the league that Geno is the #2....possibly increasing his trade value from absolutely nothing at all....to a conditional 7th. The one thing we should have learned already about this front office is that they always have a plan.....and no one else knows what it is. But I guess by this time next week we will have it all figured out. Anyway you shape it, our QB situation is not great....but that's been the one constant since...well....almost forever. Not necessarily the way I see it, but you may be right. At this stage we are all just guessing. I do agree that our QB situation is far from ideal, no matter who we keep or release. At least all of this debate comes to an end in another two or three days and we will know who we have going forward.

If I had to guess I'd say Geno has made the 53.

My take on the QB situation is that we don't have one Then root for another team and stop bitching. Dude STFU you used to actually be good at trolling

Geno just doesnt have the attitude, pocket awareness or mental fortitude to be a starting QB in this league. I think he will be a career backup...
With that being said Petty is further along then we thought, and that's all well and good, but if you don't think this kid won't get fucking laced playing against starters then idk, maybe you just suffer from "anyone but Geno" syndrome.
My vote is still for Petty to the PS....only Jet fans believe Petty has done enough for us to be scared to expose him to waivers

meh. So is it "better' to lose with Genope than with Petty? ABSOLUTELY NOT. At least Petty gets experience from game time. There is no benefit at all to losing with Genope Speaking honestly, we're all jets fans of course - but some of your heads are to full of fuck to make good judgements. You don't like Geno. I get it. We all get it. turning his name into nope says everything i need to know about where your heads at. Personally, i've even grown weary of his BS... but the reality is we lose less with Geno than Petty right now. Deal with that, less with your personal feelings about him. feelings don't matter: Genope sucks. His attitude sucks and will become divisive. GeNOPE. Better that Petty get real world experience
