If your a good employee, better than the other idiots you work with, you should be safe. Good luck bro. If you find yourself out on Monday, pm me. We have offices in NJ and might have a job open. ' This oughta go well.... "So Big L, how do you know Mr Fishooked?" "Oh we've known each other for years because we're both Jet fans" "And how would you rate Mr Fishookeds technical abilities?" "Well there's this website where he did a real good job with this funny stoopid picture thread...."

Get your resume updated ASAP, Fish. Don't wait, just in case. I lost a month when I was laid off because mine wasn't updated and looked like shit. Paid a professional resume writer $400 to update mine and my LinkedIn profile. Totally worth it. i'll be doing that all weekend most likely.

Good luck Fishhooked. I've been there before. It's the anxiety over the possibility of what will come that is the worst. Things to do now: Resume Network Fish
Stress will eat you alive if you let it. Try to take a rationale approach to dealing with this. In the long run for a number of reasons, you will be better off.

Good luck Fish. Having been through this I know the feeling, finally went out on my own. You'd think seniority would be an advantage but nowadays it seems to be a drawback. Yeah sure the economy is doing great they say. One of my clients was just laid off from a large financial company after 31 years (so I'll be losing that client eventually despite her huge severance), then I found out her husband had also just been laid off 3 weeks prior. Sorry that's probably not what you want to hear but your friends have given you good advice here, and even a job lead! Good luck!

So there is a real possibility that I may get laid off for the first time in my life. I work for a Fortune 500 company, and have been working here for almost 30 years. Hell I started here when I was 18. Our company got a new CIO recently (from outside the company as usual), and he is all about 'reducing overlap'...infrastructure, hardware....and people. A few months ago our director announced his "retirement". He'd always fought tooth and nail for us and we've never lost anyone to layoffs before. So that was a somewhat of a shock, but he's been mailing it in the last few years, and has been very resistant to change, which is pretty hard to do in an IT testing organization. If he was willing to take on more projects for the group we might be in better shape. But we knew his boss liked our group and what we do, so we figured we were safe. The following week we find out he is "retiring" too, so our safety net is pretty much gone. Early this week there is a pretty strong rumor that "massive layoffs" are going to happen in our organization on Monday. Sure enough, there are several conference rooms booked by 'HR' on several floors next week. Our boss is pretty up front with us on a lot of stuff, so we asked him about it. He basically confirmed it, but is not allowed to say anything. When pressed, he said he can't really say anything but has said it will affect our group. We can tell he hasn't been the same this week. He's a great guy and a great boss, despite being a Steelers fan. I'd like to think that I'm safe as I've always gotten good reviews, never call in sick, work 10-12 hour days everyday....but we're all just names on an org chart at this point. Fuck. Don't get upset or get anxiety over things you can't control. When one door closes another always opens and you will get an even better opportunity down the road. F the company. You're good, believe in yourself and have a few drinks after work today. You'll feel a lot better :0). Good luck man. Keep us posted. I'll be praying for ya too.

Really sucks to hear. Hoping for the best though, man.
Reading stuff like this makes me so grateful for having taken (and survived) my shitty first career.

So not one of you fuckers is a headhunter or recruiter? I'm just kidding. I would reply to each and everyone's comments, but I really suck at multi-quoting, but I really appreciate the positive vibes from everyone. It feels good to know that I have pretty much been a ghost around here the last few months, and I can come back and be able to lean on you fine folks for support and advice. I'm maybe about 51% percent positive I'll get through this next stretch, which isn't saying much I guess. I've done my share of slacking off (lol) but there are some REAL complacent deadbeats around here, folks that used to do field work but landed a job here in corporate, and have just gotten fat & complacent, and never once left the job they were hired here for, still doing the same crap, without wanting to strive to do more. I can think of at least 10-12 people easily that should be on the block (out of our team of 30+), some of them should really be charged with theft. So one of the conference rooms they have booked for this purpose is right near my cubicle, I should have a pretty good line of sight as to who is going in & out. We've named it 'The Chopping Block', I should do play by play on Monday here since I won't be able to concentrate on actual work. But the fun most likely continues through the whole week. Ok off to have some beers and work on this resume thing.

we have a national sales force of independent reps and we're looking to hire 80 by the end of the year. independent meaning you'd be a 1099. we're actually showing preference to people without sales experience rather than seasoned sales veterans, because training people for our sales process is easier when you're not trying to retrain someone with set ways. it's in the industrial/manufacturing space, but you don't need experience in that either because your sales process is supported by our application engineers who understand all that. 110 year old company. pm if interested.
