Fuck this. All bad advice.
If you get shitcanned on Monday, take the rest of the week and drink and smoke your herb and hang out in your boxers. Grow a week beard. Don't shower. Play Xbox and watch porn at noon.
THEN get your resume together and start calling contacts.

Wear a really nice suit for the phone interview. Amirite? _ LOLZ If they ask me what my favorite dinosaur is, I'm walking out. Only YOU would find a way to walk out...... of a phone interview.

I'm sorry to say that is the private sector situation for years if not working under a contract you have no job security in the best of times, especially in the subpar economy our lib Muslim gov't has bungled on purpose - even your friends and "mentors" can't save you sometimes. I have been there, it sucks the root, and the Baby Boomers V1 born 1942-1954 the most spoiled venal and ungratefullest generation ever started the Gordon Gekko trend where loyalty is a one way street and means nothing back in Bubbas reign of error. Thank Gd Gen X Gen Y and the most idiotic of them all the Millennials can't come close to approaching our intellect and output or more of us would be out on the street. Because of this institutionalized fuckery, there is a silver lining that there is no stigma to being laid off and changing jobs is de rigeur so as others said you are bound to get an even better job should the worst happen. You are one of the smartest here it seems unfair I know. Makes you feel you should have landed a public sectors job and mailed it in for 20-30 years. ;(

I don't think they do it on purpose. I think these people are so fucking stupid and greedy that they don't care to research the error of their ways.
I just watched The Big Short. You'd be surprised, or maybe not, but these people arent smart. That's the problem. They are dumb, politicians, greedy fucks, etc... they literally have no idea about what they are doibg or the consequences of their actions.

Give no loyalty to any company.
Trust me, I've worked for IBM, McKesson, Accenture... they don't give a shit about you. And no one checks shit out either. They only know what you tell them. Do what's best for you, jump ship if you have to. Take advantage of a sinking ship too. That's what I do now. I'll ride that shit to the bottom and collect checks, work two jobs, give minimum effort. These CEOs are doing just enough to keep you there while they maximise a profit to sell a shitty product/company to another unsuspecting moron who only knows how to see numbers in the paper even when they don't make sense. Fuck those guys. Life's too short to dir at your desk making some one else rich.

Good luck my Fishy friend, lets all hope this round passes you (personally) by. There but for the grace of the Flying Spaghetti Monster go we all these days. You'd think 30 years (or in my own case 16) would buy us some security. Lolnope. Remember my friend, we're always hiring down here in D.C., the Government can eat as many people as we can feed it, and it (unlike for most of us) pays well AND gives good security. Be nice to have a few extra Jets fans down here too, me and Crusher could show you the town (or at least where the fat guys eat). Good luck man, good luck. I'll be thinking of you Monday. Naked. With Oil. Ah, I would have done the move down south if the kids weren't established in school, we have a really good special education program here in town. But we did kick around the idea of moving to NC a few years back, I would have left this craphole state in a heartbeat. Aren't you in VA? Anywhere near Norfolk? My company is pulling this bs where they are laying people off here, then giving them the option to re-apply for those jobs at Norfolk, which of course are a dirt-poor fresh out of college type of salaries, and of course they wont help foot the bill to help you relocate. Fuck all that. All they do is preach service service service, well good luck pulling that off hiring a bunch of millennial n00bs with zero work or life experience.

I mean don't get me wrong, it's U.S. Military central, but the actual town/city is serious meh. No, I'm in No.VA near D.C. Thats where the money is in this area.

I'm an IT consultant and my company just went through a Hugh reorganize and there is rumors that more are coming. They outsourced the help desk a couple of years ago, brought in Accenture (India) for a lot of areas a year ago and then as a part of the reorganize moved most Level 3 positions to Accenture. I have been at this company for 5 years but I am not happy with the direction they are heading in. However I work for great people who treat me well and see my value. They let me come and go as I please and I am well paid. I have a very diverse skill set that would be hard to replace easily. You never know when upper management might decide to make a change. Here is the good news. I keep my resume up to date all thee to. E and opened mine up on Dice because I was annoyed at work and I wanted to test the market. I have been flooded with requests to interview. 3 or 4 per day. One caught my attention so I asked what the rate is and it would be a $25 bump even if I didn't negotiate. Very tempting. I got that email on Friday and I am struggling with the decision. There are tons of jobs out there right now. Hope all goes well. Good luck!
