The 11-3 Jets host the 12-2 Raiders on a cold and windy day at Shea for the AFL championship..with the Jets trailing in the 4th quarter 23-20 Joe Namath hooks up on a long pass to Don Maynard deep inside Oakland territory... Then Namath finds Maynard again in the end zone for a Touchdown to take a 27-23 lead....with time running down Daryle Lamonica throws a pass that is blown backwards by the winds of Shea, inside the Jets redzone, and the Jets recover..its ruled a lateral.... Game over.... The Jets punched their ticket to Super Bowl III.....and that's the way it was on this day in Jets History...

The over the shoulder Maynard makes is unreal....then he fortunately fumbles the ball..... Out of bounds......ruled a completion but today instant replay would have looked for an hour at that catch to be sure Don made a "football move"

Seeing replays it appears that the Jets recovered the lateral and ran it in for a touchdown....but for some reason they were given the ball at the spot...I wonder what the betting line was?.......hmmmmmm...

i remember my father and older brother going crazy cause oakland got down to the 12 i think before that fumble...brings me back... thanks...

remembering how old you were, remembering who was with you watching... good stuff
