Also on this date, in 1992, Al Toon announced his retirement, as a result of suffering from post concussion syndrome. Toon played his last game three weeks earlier, when he suffered the 5th concussion of his career in a 27-16 loss to the Broncos. Despite having his career cut short, Toon is still 3rd on the Jets all time receiving list with 517 (behind Don Maynard and Wayne Chrebet) and 4th in receiving yards (behind Chrebet, Maynard and Wesley Walker). He still holds the Jets single season receiving mark with 93 receptions in 1988.

Didn't want to keep this buried in the fake spike thread. How good could this guy have been had he stayed healthy?

He still holds the Jets single season receiving mark with 93 receptions in 1988. Not anymore. Toon was a player that every Jets fan loved. I bet even Jetrepulsion liked him.

I heard at one time he was confined to a dark room because of the multiple concussions he suffered. Hopefully he has progressed past that and is leading a full life after football.
