Also on this date, in 1992, Al Toon announced his retirement, as a result of suffering from post concussion syndrome. Toon played his last game three weeks earlier, when he suffered the 5th concussion of his career in a 27-16 loss to the Broncos.
Despite having his career cut short, Toon is still 3rd on the Jets all time receiving list with 517 (behind Don Maynard and Wayne Chrebet) and 4th in receiving yards (behind Chrebet, Maynard and Wesley Walker). He still holds the Jets single season receiving mark with 93 receptions in 1988.
