I'm not comparing the two. Just because Smith has been worse, doesn't mean Beckham has been good. 2 catches per game and 1 TD every 5 games is not some incredible start to a career. All I was saying is that I'm pretty damn sure no one would be bellowing about Beckham being terrible, because it wouldn't back up what they thought about him prior to his NFL career. We might disagree, but 98% of us want what's best for the Jets. Beckham's question marks were off the field, but you can't act like a WR that is a year younger and put up 7x the stats isn't better. Even if the other one has been injured a lot. Their first year stats were 10 games 135 yards and 1 TD to 16 games 549 yards and 4 TDs. If Smith put up Green Beckham's stats everyone including you would be saying he's a stud. Yet we're clinging to Smith's below mediocre stats and praying for a hail mary. I wouldn't. Green Beckhams numbers aren't good. Smiths are worse. Terrible. But that doesn't change the fact that Green Beckham has underwhelmed so much he's already been traded. I value your opinion, I just don't agree that DGB is not an underwhelming player too. He may be better than Smith thus far, but that doesn't mean he's good.. As far as the stats, it's not exactly Apples to Apples situation either. DGB wasn't playing beside/behind Marshall and Decker. I'm not saying that changes things for Smith's disappointment , but DGB wouldn't have put up those numbers here. DBG and Robby Anderson had pretty similar first years. I don't see anyone calling him a stud. I see people saying he might be a steal for an UDFA.

I don't need or want your help. I dontbvalue your opinion at all. I only bring up the draftniks when quoting you because the rest of them are good. You aren't. Apparently they feel otherwise, I only go by my track record. You don't and have never had one, yet you have some weird type of hard-on for me.....I even tried the olive branch earlier. Hey man, if you want to start over, I'm all for it. I mistook the olive branch for something else. I would be more than happy to share my thoughts on players I watch. I thought you were trying to stir the pot.

In the end, we're all Jets fans and want a Lombardi but this franchise kicks us in the balls repeatedly, decade after decade. Go ahead and post in the DF, never any personal attacks in there and we do pull up some nice prospects WAY before they are on the radar. Easily the best DF of any Jets forum out there and a lot of tape watchers.

Of course who you're playing with matters to a certain degree, but at the end of day you have to produce. That is why I always go off my gut and what I felt when they were drafted. Playing behind Marshall and Decker should hurt SOME WRs stats, but a deep threat like Smith should be the perfect 3rd/4th WR his rookie year. However, he's raw and Fitz couldn't hit him on a deep route if his life depended on it (not his fault) so he was useless. My problem is if you draft a player in the 1st/2nd round they shouldn't be a one trick pony. Smith may be fast, but he doesn't change direction very well, if he did he would have made a difference in the slot as a rookie. My dead grandmother could have gotten open across the middle last year. Fitz broke records because of Marshall and Decker. Yet Smith couldn't get open across the middle when only LBs and S were covering him.

This team, this franchise, the GM, the players, the FO, the owners, the stadium, everything SUX. They are 3-13 or 4-11 or whatever and they are the worst team in the league. Worst players ever. The drafts have absolutely blown. Hack WILL be terrible. I've been following this team long enough to guarantee it. Devin Smith will never learn how to catch. Pryor, Lee and whatever other straws we are grasping at will NEVER be any good. Have you people been watching the jets for the last 25 years? We all know exactly what they are. Wake up and stop deluding yourselves. I see it, we can all see it. Dead team walking.

The moment we drafted Hack last year, whether you liked the pick or not, I recall tons of folks here saying 'i dont want to see him till y2.'
I was always discouraged by the fact our staff felt that would be necessary, but they are just doing what they said they would and what i thought at the time the consensus here was would make sense.
What I am really dissappointed about is that I dont ever read the team doing strategic stuff to make their own plans happen. Like, if the plan was to develop Hack, and our scouting id'd he had specific footwork issues...why havent we heard of them hiring some footwork guru.
I know it sounds dumb. But when we were awful in the redzone, we hired that retired colts coach to consult on just that with Sanchez and we became the most efficient in the red zone from one season to another.
It often feels like whereas BB is actively experimenting and trying to create distinctions in how he does stuff in NE (not condoning the rampant cheating), we just act like time and biz as usual will see things through...and they rarely do...
We have this amazing d line and we do nothing with it. Our secondary falls apart, there are no adjustments ever...

as of 4pm on sunday hack's red shirt season becomes a moot point. it's done and over. time to look forward to next season. hopefully, the jets were working on hack a lot more than they are letting on or at least have some time table for this guy to see the field. if he's not ready by next season then there really needs to be a whole lot of splaining on the part of mike maccagnan.

Thought I'd oput this here rather than start a new thread. Anonymous coach likely fired today. www.roarlionsroar.com/nfl-nittany-lions/2017/01/1469/anonymous-new-york-jets-coach-christian-hackenberg-couldnt-hit-ocean-penn-state-adam-schefterANONYMOUS JETS COACH: CHRISTIAN HACKENBERG 'COULDN'T HIT THE OCEAN'New York Jets quarterback Christian Hackenberg (5) warms up before a game against the Cleveland Browns at FirstEnergy Stadium. Scott R. Galvin-USA TODAY Sports An anonymous New York Jets coach told ESPN's Adam Schefter that former Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg "couldn't hit the ocean," with team officials also saying the rookie regressed this year. The criticism, which had no names attached to it, was reported on Sunday's NFL pregame shows, including the bottom line crawl: Hackenberg performed poorly in the preseason and has been inactive for the Jets all season -- except for today against the Bills. He is active for the first time and will back up starter Ryan Fitzpatrick. It's been a rough year for Hackenberg, who has faced scorn ever since the Jets picked him. It's gotten to the point where there was a widely circulated report last week that he bounced a throw in warmups. Things might not get better for Hackenberg, either. The Jets, who are busy criticizing a rookie they picked anonymously, are expected to make changes on offense next year, Schefter reported. Although [head coach Todd] Bowles and [general manager Mike] Maccagnan are expected to be safe, the Jets likely will make some changes to their coaching staff, sources told ESPN. There has been speculation about offensive coordinator Chan Gailey's future with the Jets. DOWNWARD TREND Hackenberg struggled at Penn State in his final two years, which coincided with the first two years of James Franklin's tenure in State College. Hackenberg was a revelation as a true freshman in 2013 in former coach Bill O'Brien's pro-style scheme; following that true freshman season (2,955 yards and 20 touchdowns), Hackenberg became the subject of NFL interest. However, after a rocky 2014, where he tossed only 12 TDs versus 15 interceptions, and a pedestrian junior campaign in 2015 (2,525 yards, 16 TDs, 6 INTs), the book on Hackenberg changed; he still declared for the draft. Facing heavy scrutiny in the draft process for inaccuracy, attitude and general lack of production in a high-profile position, the Jets picked Hackenberg No. 51 overall. The Jets, who have cycled through quarterbacks for much of the decade, planned to keep Hackenberg stocked away for at least a year. Plans change when your quarterbacks get hurt and you're on the way to another losing season. The Jets face the Bills at 1 p.m. today on CBS. _
