It's too early of course but it looks like Jameis might fall. Should the Jets pull the triggger if Winston falls to six ? ? ? I still believe that Jameis flaws are correctable. I am thinking yes because as well as Geno Smith'o has played in his past few games, this might be the closest we get to drafting a possible true franchise QB in a while. absolutely pull the trigger. there are really only two other players you can consider. Cooper or one of the top OT... given the weight Winston's potential carries, you go with him if he's there. do you move up for him? probably not. but if he's there it's obvious that you take him over a receiver or OT, a QB is just too important and there are essentially zero salary cap implications I agree completely, I don't want to move up for him but if he drops to six I want the Jets to draft him and the the best qb to win in training camp.

OSU got very lucky at the end. Whoever called a pass play on 1st down with 1:59 left should get kicked in the nuts. If Alabama didn't mismanage the clock on their first two plays this game might have gone to OT.

If Winston did not have the off the field issues, based on what I saw in the game he is a much better pro prospect than Mariota. Winston makes throws from the pocket in tight windows, Mariota hits wide open receivers against a gassed defense. Unless you plan on running the Ducks Offense, Mariota has lots and lots of question marks. The big unanswered question is whether he can play effectively in a pro style offense. He'll get a chance in the senior bowl I imagine, but that is a very small sample.

These are supposed to be two of the greatest college coaches and both teams did an awful job managing the clock. The OSU pass play was ridiculous on first down and Bama completely wasted about 45 seconds with 2 short underneath passes to open the last drive. On a side note, how bad a bowl season has this been for the SEC West -- just 2-5 in their Bowl games. What a mistake it would have been to have two teams from SEC W in the playoff.

Mariota will not play in the Senior Bowl. The only players who are allowed to compete in the Senior Bowl are players who have exhausted their playing eligibility. I have always felt that if you graduate by the end of the fall semester you should be able to compete in the Senior Bowl. However, that is not the case and I doubt it will change. The NFLPA All-Star game has allowed a junior or two to play in their game before but the game can't hold a candle to the East-West Shrine bowl or the Senior Bowl.

I think they changed the rule where if you already graduated, you can play in the Senior Bowl.

Mariota is a great college player, but he is very inconsistent with his downfield throws and I just don't see him make many throws into tight windows. Winston would still go first if not for the off the field stuff. From my perspective, yesterday worked out well for the Jets because it is starting to look like a very real possibility that Winston will be there at number 6.

Wikipedia says "the game showcases the best NFL Draft prospects of those collegiate players who have completed their eligibility." However, Wikipedia is not exactly gospel.

As long as you have graduated with your under grad degree by December you are eligible to play in Senior Bowl. Adrian Hubbard and DJ Fluker both played in the Senior Bowl with a year remaining on their eligibility.

OSU throwing the ball on first down was beyond bad, especially since Bama only had two timeouts. Maybe if Bama had all three TOs you could somewhat justify it on some level, but with only two TOs you make Bama use them on first and second down and then bleed the clock after that. Not a good bowl season for the SEC, gives some ammo to the whole SEC is overrated crowd.

SEC West has sucked -- looks like they were vastly overrated all year.

Thanks. I had forgotten Fluker was 2013.
So, here is my question then: Of the 98 underclassmen that declared for the 2014 NFL Draft why was Hubbard the only one to get invited to the Senior Bowl? I can't believe that Hubbard was the only one of 98 to get his degree before the Spring semester. I'm guessing the people running the Senior Bowl have something to do with it.

I thought the Mississippi teams were a little overrated throughout the season but as a whole I don't think there was a typically dominant, unbeatable SEC team this year. I think the decision to crack down and stop the practice of over signing recruits 3 years ago has led to little more parity in the SEC conference and overall in the power 5 conferences. You just can't stockpile 35 recruits in a given year anymore, so these better players are being spread out all over the power conferences.
