www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/inside-bizarre-owl-cafs-japan-9947300Owls fluff up their feathers and preen beneath the stroking fingers of customers at Owl Village, one of many owl cafés that have popped up around Japan amid the nation's pet café boom. Here children can play and pet the eight owls, while adults take photos with the birds that are often tied by their feet with a rope so that they don't fly away. But behind the squeals of delighted children and the popularity that has the café fully booked most days lurks a much darker story of careless treatment that may endanger the animals, activists say. Owl Village representative Aya Matsuda said they are aware of the issues and has made efforts to ensure that the animals in her café are as stress free as possible. ![](http://i3.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article9948857.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/Inside-the-bizarre-Owl-cafes-in-Japan-where-you-can-pet-a-bird-and-eat-your-lunch-at-the-same-time.jpg)

"...has made efforts to ensure that the animals in her cafe are as stress free as possible" So long as their feet are tied by a rope to prevent them from escaping captivity. Yeah. "stress free", indeed.

Sounds cool. I've never petted an owl. But have seen some close up, along with falcons and kestrels.. really awesome birds..
