Perhaps one of the biggest moments in Jets and AFL history, Sonny Werblin signs Joe Namath on Jan. 2nd 1965 to a $427,000.00
contract that included a Lincoln. At the time it was the largest contract for an Athlete ever. The signing help to in a way legitimize
the AFL, and showed the NFL that the new league could compete in regards to acquiring talent.
The two leagues would soon merge as a result of this signing, IMO...
Also, the Jets beat Buffalo on Jan 2nd 2011 38-7 to complete an 11-5 regular season......

Two pretty big moments in our history. The 11-5 is tied for our second-best mark and Joe Willie is the only thing separating us from the Lions, Browns, etc.

"'We feel that in getting Joe,' Werblin told a news conference, 'we got the No. 1 college football player in America, and with him we will give the New York fans the finest team in America. This is the start toward many championship years for the Jets.'" Werblin had it right. The team he built was good enough to win multiple championships. If only Weeb could have convinced Namath to hand the ball off when the Jets had a lead.
