So after making my Humphrey bed, I decided to lie in it. I've soured on Alabama corners lately and hadn;t bothered to give Marlon the time of day until now.
I came away with 2 realizations: --He's much better/versatile than I thought --Guarantee he's gonna be the Jets pick @6 LOL
Reminds me of Patrick Peterson in a lot of ways. I haven't read the scouting reports, but he plays very disciplined football at or near the LOS, and engages his man with speed and physicality and knows how to use his size and strength. Much smarter than Milliner. Doesn't take plays off and terrific tackler. Plays tight man or off coverage both well... not crazy about him downfield covering a vertical (Peterson's always been a liability downfield). But he tracks the ball well enough and keeps position. He had a strong game against clemson, including holding his own and then some vs Williams (most of Mike's big plays weren't against Humphrey)
I actually can't find the things i used to dislike about him. He looks like he stepped out of Bowles' laboratory for CBs -- and I actually expect them to pick Marlon Humphrey now. He's all Revis, and no Sanders.

The other thing -- his awareness. Knows where the play is all the time.

That's just not a great a great comparison. Peterson, maybe. But lets not forget how dominant Peterson was a t the college level. He was simply a much better player and prospect. I think X.Rhodes might be a good comparison. Humphrey is a better tackler but they are both similar in their body type and the way they play. But let's put that aside. Humphrey INEXPLICABLY IMO, has gotten a bad rap from Jet fans simply b/c he went to Bama. Personally, I don't get it. I mean, if you don't focus on that he is a very nice CB prospect and fits the mold of the type of CB the Jets are looking for. He has flaws but is a very good prospect and is a balanced player. I would not mind if they took him. S.Jones has always been my top CB prospect in this draft- but the injury is devastating. I'm not a huge Lattimore fan. I like Q.Wilson as well- more so than Tabor. I also like Moreau- but he is very raw. Humphrey is a unique talent. And if the Jets take him at 6 at least you know they did their homework as they have been scouting Bama players like crazy.

Agreed that a lot of Jet fans are hard on Humphrey because he's from Bama, but he's a much better CB than Millner. Like you said he's young and a little raw, but he has the tool set to be a great corner. Right now he's good at everything, but not great. I also had Wilson and Jones over Humphrey, and would put him over Lattimore. Moreau recently tore his pec so he might drop in the draft even though he had an excellent combine.

I've always thought of Sanders as a corner who played the ball, in comparison to Revis who played the man. I was referring to that quality. I agree, i came away a little smitten after watching 4 games last night. He's not an island corner, but neither are 4/5 of the DBs in the league. He's a bit of a liability on deep balls with no help over the top, but that's OK given what you get in within 15 yards of the line of scrimmage -- which is where 80% of the plays happen. He's got sick awareness and ability to read the play and get on top of the ball. Rarely is he out of position.

He does not impress me at all. I only saw him two games but he looked worse than meh to me. On top of that I am suspicious of CBs that have the benefit of totally elite front 7s in front of them.

I was waiting for you to chime in.... that's it? I was expecting something a bit more thorough based on your level of disdain

While I did not watch every Bama game last year, he was exposed in the championship game. He was abused during the 2nd and 3rd qtrs and didn't make a play during Clemson's come back winning drives in the 4th.
Now granted Williams is a beast and will be a first rounder, Humphrey is gonna have trouble with NFL wide outs.
If the Jets take him in the first two rounds, as soon as he has to play, and plays poorly, he will be added to D. Smith and Hackenberg busts. The jury is still out on Macc and taking Humphrey won't help his cause.

Only two games but that is what I took away from it.

Hardly. Made no plays?...By covering his man and forcing the QB to go elsewhere, does that count? Cmon... This is elementary shit here. Alright you two, have another peek - he certainly did not get owned by Williams for the whole game. Nor did he completely dominate him either. He's not an island corner. You can't leave him alone vs John Ross or Desean Jackson... and that's OK. Yes, he's shown to be a liability on deep balls with no help over the top. In exchange however, you get a lot on the front end IMO

I didn't mean to shred Humphrey but at the time of the Championship game, he was the top rated corner. I expected a lot more of of him based on that ranking. There are a ton of corners in this draft that could go as high as mid first al the way to early 3rd round. He is one of them. What wil probably happen, just Ike our mock, there will be a run on corners near the end of the first round and it would not surprise me to see a ton go off the board somewhere between 21-45.
