Ok, so up until now we have been focusing mostly on guys at the top of the draft board. Let's start looking at guys that may be available for some of the Jets later picks.

* This kid is an absolute baller, I just don't know if I can label him a TE * Decent height at 6'3", but light for a TE at 234 * Had a great combine www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/evan-engram?id=2557858* explodes into his routes and gets on top of the defender quickly * runs very good routes * makes plays down the field, jumps out of the gym and knows how to high point the ball * Has good hands, but you do see at least one drop due to concentration * Almost nothing on tape showing his ability as a blocker, so it's difficult to make a call on it * I don't see this kid as a Y tight end, but that's ok. Honestly, I'd like to see him as an H back/Full back that you move all around the field and create matchups with.

Well, thanks for that Maury. 45-14 loss. Remember that game well, listening to it in the car on my drive out to my son's house in Des Moines, the day before we made the trip down to KC for that epic Fitz performance -- something I am sure you remember well, as I believe you were also in Arrowhead that day. Turned the game off when we were down by like 30 before halftime. Swore I would never even watch a second of highlights of that game, and now, thanks to you, I have seen about 3 minutes of it. Awful weekend of football. But I digress. As to Engram, definitely not a traditional tight end, but a very versatile offensive weapon that could create matchup nightmares for defenses. Not the prototypical tight end, but given his size and 4.4 speed there is a lot that a good OC can do with a weapon like that. Not sure he makes it to our 2nd round pick, but I would be all for grabbing him if we have the chance.

I hope we can actually meet the next time we are in town together. Can you imagine the versatility the Jets would have on offense if they picked Engram? Between him, Decker and Enunwa, you could create mismatches all over the field if you have a creative OC.

I hope we can actually meet the next time we are in town together. Yup, I had a blast in KC. Except for the game. What about trying to organize a draft forum road trip this year. Any interest?

Honestly, I'd like to see him as an H back/Full back that you move all around the field and create matchups with. He's the best TE in the draft... To me, that's clear. I knew it a year ago, and it hasn't really changed. I've watched the games, i've watched the tape. He's "it". He's on the top 5 safest picks in the draft I think we need to distinguish the different types of TE... With wide receivers, we have your split ends (X) or Julios, your flankers (Z) or Keenan Allens, and your slot guys. When it comes to Tight Ends, you have your (Y) or regular inline guys. Tony was a great Y tight end, Gates is one, and Gronk is often used in this role... Presently ASJ fits this role for us largely. However, Joker tight ends often get erroneously lumped into Hbacks which don't really get used in the NFL too often these days. Aaron Hernandez was an H-back who dueled as a Joker as well - but an H-back is a Tight end who will line up in the backfield and takes on FB responsibilities. Presently the only Hback in the NFL i can think of is kyle juszczyk. James casey was an Hback but didn't really do much... A Joker TE is basically a TE flexed out as a receiver. They can line up all over the place, but they're TE/WR combo; Jordan Reed being the contemporary archetype. Engram is about to set the bar at Joker TE... IMO at least.

To add to that -- the whole Paradis-TE thing came about because i was obsessed with the 12 personnel formation, which uses TWO TIGHT ENDS.... one Y and one Joker. Later made famous by NE with Gronk and Hernandez. If you can get pair up two great TEs like ASJ and Engram in those roles, along with with a strong X and Z and a good all around RB like Cook - you have unstoppable offense... presently we don't have a great split end (X) on the roster. Decker is a better Z or slot guy IMO.

Love him...I mean, I'd prefer a do-all TE to a joker TE...many teams have taken a shot at finding that type of player and failed. See Jace Amaro. That said, Engram is special. He reminds me of Jordan Reed before NFL.com made the comparison.
What round is going? Does he slip into the 1st?

There is no way this kid should slip out of round 1. In fact I'd be confident taking him between 12-20 if we drop back. Howard may be the best overall TE with the highest upside, but this kid will be a nightmare from day one. He may not break 1,000 yards every year at the next level, but I think he'll consistently put up 800+ YDS 8+ TDs joker TE which will be extremely valuable to our offense. Teams won't be able to double our WRs as much because no LB will be able to keep up with him. My only problem with him is that he tends to drop a few easy passes. I believe PFF had him at a 10% drop rate, which isn't great, but it's not terrible. Also his blocking may be bad, but he's a willing blocker. He'll never be great blocking on the line, but I don't care and wouldn't really ask him to do it. With some coaching he'll be fine at chipping defenders and blocking down the field to spring other players for big gains.

Cool, Lets touch base by PM after the schedule comes out. Maybe we can pick a game and recruit a few others from the Draft Board and see if we can make it happen.
