I must not have read the draft forum back then, but just curious what the temperature of the room was back then?
I am not ashamed to admit I thought it was going to be a home run. I was ecstatic. Turns out I shouldn't have been.

Yes, I was happy with the pick and the trade up at the time. Was okay with it for 2 years. 2011 is when it came to an end. Needed him to take the next step and he stepped backwards.
Geno, on the other hand, I hated the pick from day 1.

I was originally against the idea of trading up for him because I thought it would cost a fortune, but after seeing how we robbed the Browns I was ok with it. I really wanted us to do was stay at 18 and take Maclin, Harvin, or Nicks. When we traded up I knew it was for Sanchez, but I kind of hoped it was for Crabtree. In the end it was whatever, we had two of our most exciting years ever with Sanchez at QB even though he busted. It's a shame Rex couldn't convince Farve to stay. A healthy Farve with the 09 defense and Harvin who they wanted would probably have won it all.

I wasn't sure about Sanchez, but the trade up didn't hurt us much if any at all.

I really liked Stafford but I knew we weren't going to get him. I was definitely ok with taking Sanchez. Hopeful is probably the right word. But like Lith said, we needed him to progress and unfortunately he regressed. The Jets FO obviously didn't help either.

I loved the Sanchez pick. He was a highly recruited kid at USC. He played in a pro style offense in USC. He had OK physical tools, but he was very accurate in college. He had a huge bowl game against PSU (similar to Sam Darnold).
Looking back, its tough to figure out why Sanchez didn't work out. We all read the stories about what a hard worker he was and there were no stories (that I can remember) about laziness or lack of character. His game just never matured. He would press when things were going bad and make mistakes. When things were going well, he was very good. The organization and Rex Ryan certainly didn't make things easier for him.

Woody needed to sell seats. And the Jets had no QB. I was excited when they took him. Even though he gave us two good years and the most exciting years I've seen....he never made me think "we finally got our guy". He was only doing just enough. Oh well. Good times.

I have heard some stories about him that don't make the papers and apparently he was a great guy behind the scenes. Really rooted for him to succeed.

Even though he gave us two good years and the most exciting years I've seen....he never made me think "we finally got our guy". He was only doing just enough. Oh well. Good times. Those first two years, I really thought we had our guy. As a rookie, he was horrific in about 4 games, but played pretty well the rest of the way. I assumed that a couple of awful games is expected from a rookie, but the would eliminate them as he gained experience. Add in his 2 road playoff wins where he managed the games well, and I was excited about the future with Sanchez. His play in that 2nd year was a bit of a disappointment as he did not progress as much as I expected, but the way he led the team back from behind, week after week. He may have been a big part of the reason why we were behind in some of those games, but he led the league in game winning drives in 2010. Dallas, Detroit, Cleveland, Houston, Indy in the playoffs. Again, won two playoff games and had to do more than just manage these games -- great throw to Braylon to set up the GW FG in Indy and he played what may have been his best game the following week in New England. Yup, I thought he was a winner. I thought we had our guy. Until 2011.

Furious. He was the 1 player in the entire draft I wanted nothing to do with.

Loved the move up, loved the pick, loved his reaction and I actually loved his play in 2009-2010. The FO them laid down on the guy when they should have been propping him up. Could have been the guy. Then Wayne Fucking Hunter happened. What a goddam shame. _
