I have heard some stories about him that don't make the papers and apparently he was a great guy behind the scenes. Really rooted for him to succeed. 1000% _

Then Wayne Fucking Hunter happened. My friend and I always say Sanchez got "Huntered". That Bronco game where he took two head shots killed the little bit of confidence he had left. Hack is also someone who got "Huntered" in college, which is one of the many reasons I didn't want him.

As Lith said, I was pumped as all hell.
I had been campaigning for months on JI beforehand for the Jets to move up for Sanchez.
I compared him to Matt Ryan numerous times.
Unfortunately, it didn't work out.
And about 12-13 weeks into the 2011 season, I turned on him like a rabid dog and routinely smacked SAR, Rah Rah and sg3 into the fucking dirt for continually defending him.
But I sure as hell don't fault the Jets for trying.

I liked the Sanchez pick because we fleeced the Browns and it cost us peanuts to take a stab at one of the better QB prospects at the time.
He obviously never progressed but Rex and his shitty coaching staff ruined the kid with his red light, green light, 123 bullshit. Sanchez was best when he improvised and rolled out and our coaching staff did the exact opposite. I think the Ngata hit was the big one that derailed his career because he was never the same after that one.

I liked both Sanchez and Geno coming out (shows how bad I am at evaluating QBs). The toughest part about evaluating QBs is that 2 of the biggest factors are difficult to evaluate:
1) What does the kid have between the ears? Is he going to be motivated enough to continue to improve at his craft? Is he going to be tough enough to survive through the down periods of his development?
2) How is the organization going to foster the player's growth? Are they going to use an offense that is conducive to his skill set?
These factors are part of the reason I've warmed up to Watson this year. The kid appears to have elite intangibles, having overcome a difficult childhood and graduating college in 3 years. Additionally, John Morton has experience in a WCO (where you need a mobile QB who is accurate in the short passing game) and experience working with a smaller QB (Drew Brees in New Orleans).

Hated the pick. I have my own private youtube Jet-draft reel of me going --- what?! noooo.. The Sanchez pick would be a highlight of that reel.
I'm just really, really picky about who we draft to be "the guy"

I loved the Sanchez pick. He was a highly recruited kid at USC. He played in a pro style offense in USC. He had OK physical tools, but he was very accurate in college. He had a huge bowl game against PSU (similar to Sam Darnold). Looking back, its tough to figure out why Sanchez didn't work out. We all read the stories about what a hard worker he was and there were no stories (that I can remember) about laziness or lack of character. His game just never matured. He would press when things were going bad and make mistakes. When things were going well, he was very good. The organization and Rex Ryan certainly didn't make things easier for him. 1000%. Loved the move up, loved the pick, loved his reaction and I actually loved his play in 2009-2010. The FO them laid down on the guy when they should have been propping him up. Could have been the guy. Then Wayne Fucking Hunter happened. What a goddam shame. _ I'll echo this ad infinitum. I really believe we missed an epic window there. Thanks Rex.

I would love to get some truth serum in Rex and see if he thinks deep down he and his staff screwed the pooch with Sanchez.
Rex's ego would never allow him to say so, but deep down I bet he knows they fucked it up.

I was hyped. I watched the draft with my girlfriend, my cousins were texting me "Is it gonna be Sanchez?." I missed the trade up moment but immediately knew it was gonna be Sanchez and I gave it to my girlfriend real good after that.
Sanchez was a front-runner through and through. Good when the good was happening, bad when things turned grey. That being said in 2011, I saw a guy that was finally improving, until that Baltimore game and then the Denver debacle. Sanchez got injured and true to his character never complained but his arm was shot and his confidence stayed in the ground where Ngata hit him after a three step drop.
