Mariota is clearly winning the top QB prospect race at this point. You guys know how much I like Winston but he's losing me with all of the turnovers. I'm imagining him in green n white throwing 3 INTs in the 1st quarter and me thinking "Well shit we could have Geno for this!" I'm starting to think he should stay an extra season.
Put me down for "Suck for the Duck" and give up whatever it takes to get him if we don't suck enough.
If we can't get him, I would still take the risk with Winston. I'm not at the point where I'm done with him, I'm just acknowledging that Mariota is the better prospect....

A lot of this all depends on who will be running the show....
If we get a new GM I feel comfortable in saying that QB will be a high priority.
If Idzik is around Geno Smith will be a factor into the QB equation next season....

I would love Sean Mannion in the 2nd or 3rd even if we draft Mariota/Winston or if we don't.
Just a nice safe smart pocket passer who can read a defence and drop back and doesn't worry about running.
I can dream can't I?

I can dream can't I? Mannion? That's not a dream that's a nightmare. He's terrible and taking him that early would be travesty. Anytime he played a team worth a damn outside of ASU he had a completion percentage under 49%. Weak arm, no athletic ability, system QB, and takes a ton of sacks.

He doesn't exactly have a quality team around him. No O-line, No Pass catchers, No Running Backs. Look what he did with Wheaton and Cooks. I'm also not sure where Weak Arm comes from as he throws a very accurate deep ball and can make all the throws. I'm sick of athletic quarterbacks most of them have no brains to go along with the ability. He has a Pro body and not operating some gimmick offense. If we miss out on Mariota/Winston I would have no problem with Mannion or if we draft one if them and he drops far enough grab as a security blanket like Cousins. Just please no Hundley

Just please no Hundley And he still sucked against top teams last year with Cooks. Check his numbers against ASU, Stanford, USC, Washington, and Oregon. His completion percentage was better only because he was throwing bubble screens and comebacks to Cooks all day. The weak are comment comes from watching him underthrow Cooks all year long. There were tons off times where he beat him man deep and had to come back to the ball. Hundley has his own issues and has a decent chance at busting as well. He'll need to sit and have good coaching, but at least he has elite talent.

If we don't find a way to come away with Mariota I'm gonna eat my old Jet jerseys and shit them out onto a picture of woody.
No point coming away with a guy like cooper with no solution at the most important position.

Interesting. Disagree with the notion that the NFL is headed back toward the "pocket passer". The threat if a running QB creates problems for any defense. If that QB throws well on the run the D has even more to worry about. You just need a QB who knows to slide and/or run out of bounds.

I don't watch college football but I had a look last night - can't say I was all that impressed with Mariota. If he's there at our draft postion then ok, but mortgaging the future? Don't think so.
