I just had major cancer surgery last week. I will agree with this totally. Even my wife, an RN, said he has told you 5 times he only wants 800 mg motrin. They continued to push the narc's. Does it kill all the pain, no, but enough to function and sleep. Where does it say in the book of life you should feel nothing? The Doc's are the real drug pushers today. I don't see anything wrong with taking opiates to alleviate pain after surgery for a short period, like a week max. The problem is when the Dr fucks up and keeps prescribing them. That being said, at a certain point the individual has a responsibility to recognize they have a problem and just quit. Unfortunately some people are just hard wired to become addicts and those are the people that die from ODs. I think it's criminal the way drugs like methadone are controlled so tightly so that people that want to quit can't just walk into a CVS and get it. Last surgery I had was hernia surgery years ago. They prescribed me some shit, I took it for a day and then said fuck it, I'll deal with the pain, because I hated the way it made me feel. Here in the Hudson Valley, high school athletes with injuries are getting prescribed some heavy shit, they're 17 yrs old and unable to deal with it, get hooked, then turn to cheap heroin laced with other shit, and they OD and die. True story over and over. Its criminal. Its great to say take personal responsibility and all, but that's a lot to dump on someone unready or unable to handle it.

Mass ballot question passed recreation use.
Now legislature wants to charge 28% tax and give each town the right to refuse shops.
Good news for your local illegal dealer.

I take it WaPo, nor anyone here, actually read the letter Sessions sent. First paragraph of the second page shows what they are worried about. Link to actual letter: www.scribd.com/document/351079834/Sessions-Asks-Congress-To-Undo-Medical-Marijuana-ProtectionsBut I agree Sessions has seemed hawkish on the issue. I believe that the states should be able to decide and we should not be interfering in medical marijuana. What we really need is a rescheduling. Right now it is a bit of a shit show. These legitimate marijuana businesses still can't even put money in the bank. There's got to be other ways to deal with drug traffickers taking advantage of the medical marijuana laws. That, and the "epidemic" argument seem like convenient excuses to back Federal govt overreach into states rights. Not that its entirely his call, but over "Reefer Madness" Sessions' dead body will there be a rescheduling. Guy thinks pot is the gateway to all that is evil. It would have to go through Congress, since Sessions would have input on any effort going through the Executive branch. Id guess the majority of Americans would be ok with rescheduling marijuana from Schedule 1 to Schedule 2 at least, if not de-scheduling completely. Ron Paul and Barney Frank tried that last one a few years ago, died in committee.

The tax issue isnt much different than other sin taxes, on booze, cigarettes, etc. Tax them excessively to discourage use. I dont agree with it myself, but I guess your only recourse is voting out the guys implementing the taxes. And youre right... people turn to the black market, or go across state lines, to save money.

Ron Paul and Barney Frank tried that last one a few years ago, died in committee. There are plenty of people who believe marijuana is a gateway drug. I smoked for a about a dozen years, starting in the 8th grade. I also used ecstasy and opiates recreationally. Was it marijuana that opened the door? I have no idea. I suspect for some people it can open the door. Im not an expert but I think it could be dependent on their personality. I think this marijuana experiment is in its infancy. We do have plenty of research that has displayed its benefits but I think it is too soon to tell what, if any, negative effects legalization might have on society. Just like prescription drugs I think there will be benefits and drawbacks. But we are not talking about making xanax an over-the-counter drug. So if you use the medicinal argument to make weed legal without prescription then where does that stop? What other drugs will we not need prescriptions for?

But big pharma has been getting patents. I think a synthetic just got a Sched 2 which basically makes it a prescription med. The mom and pop dispensaries will get blown out of the water.

Once they figure out how to make their money then you will see how fast it becomes legal.

Opiates with insurance is cheaper then heroin. People start looking for heroin when their Drs cut them off. When you're at the point where it's go thru withdrawal or start buying heroin, you need to realize you have a problem and get help. I'm not dumping on anyone, just stating my opinion. People act like quitting drugs is like being operated on with no anesthesia. It's more like having the flu for a week.

It's all about the money. This isn't going to end until laws are repealed at the federal level. All those pot growers need to start lobbying politicians like every other special interest group. Flip it around; Sessions is just "removing" the small players so his Corporate Farm friends can whoop ass on small growers. Total power play.

I can see the like-minded have thought this through.
Corporate Farm and Big Pharma will harvest and render. Get ready to try to grow plants and fight off thieves.
