January 5, 1995 -- Jets introduce Rich Kotite as new head coach. Bgins the worst two year stretch in Jets history. From the Philadelphia Daily News:
"I'm 80 years old. I want results now." - New York Jets owner Leon Hess, at the Jan. 5, 1995, press conference to announce the hiring of Rich Kotite. Leon Hess can hear his biological clock ticking. After watching the Jets win just three games in Rich Kotite's first season as coach, that clock is as loud as Big Ben. Hess is 81 now, and doesn't know how much longer he has before the Big Oil Baron in the Sky tells him his number is up. He still wants to win now. If there ever were any doubting the old man's sincerity, he proved it in mid-February, when he gave Kotite and club president Steve Gutman the green light to spend as many of his millions as necessary to transform the Jets from a 3-13 joke to a legitimate playoff contender.
