If you factor in the stores they are putting out of business it is probably a net loss in long-term employment. And thats just the market at work. No reason or call to punish a company for it. People are going to have to learn new skills and keep up. We dont have a free-market. And we dont have a democracy. Not by definition.

And thus my original point, should a Republican (which used to stand for small government and the free market) President be targeting companies like that just because he's butt hurt over their relationship with the WaPo? Amazing how much power a tweet can carry. That's a good article though... I had forgotten it was a long term vendetta against Bezos and Amazon. Now thats just funny... and sad. The average Joe is going to believe the tweet, accurate or not. Much like the tweet the other day that sent the stock price plummeting. And the whole threatening an internet tax thing. Oh boy. Ironically "The Post has enjoyed a surge in traffic under President Trump, serving more than 1 billion pageviews in May 2017 alone." Trump has been great for their business. People forget MSNBC was virtually dead and Colbert was doing awful. Obv WaPo and Amazon are two different entities but he can use WaPo to shape opinion and policy that is favorable for Amazon. I didnt see anything about internet taxes. I think the tax situation around Amazon stems from states claiming they skirt charging state sales tax.

oMG Bezos would then corner the black market drug trade. This guy never loses! Bezos is a scumbag. Buys the Washington Post so he can have his minions shit all over Trump. Guy gets zero respect from me until he starts donating billions of his own money to charities like Gates. Shit, Gates has given away $30B+ and he's still worth more than Bezos. Edit: and being the richest person in the world is all Bezos cares about. He was for a few minutes last week. Asshat. I have problems with Bezos but not giving away his money isn't one of them unless he is calling for higher taxes or taking more money from others. He can do a lot more good with his money that the morons running the government and charities. This is where I give Gates props. He is philithropic but a lot of that is under his direction. He is doing good things in his charity. If I was as successful as them I wouldn't trust the morons and thieves that run charities and government to improve things with my money. I would want to directly use that money myself to help others. Not to mention that they both have improved MANY more lives with the jobs that their technology directly and indirectly created than most charities that dribble money to a cause while spending big on "fundraising".

In practice, its virtually impossible to have a free-market. But less intervention and regulation, and the closer we can get to that, at least in my opinion, the better.

Wal Mart is really the only company set up right now to give Amazon a run for its money. The perception of their company is just so poor. I really don't understand why they don't spin off their online sales under a new company.

My view is just that people won't buy shit from them because they're Wal Mart.

They are a foreign company and more of a middle man that a store but they are basically the Amazon of Asia. Nowhere near as big as Walmart within the United States but they are trying to open up the Asian market to American retailers. In terms of jobs, keeping Walmart strong and competitive would be more beneficial to America as they already employ 1.5 million people. www.usatoday.com/story/tech/news/2017/06/20/chinese-online-giant-alibaba-detroit-gateway-17-small-businesses/103032416/
