Do you just default to "contrarian:? They have the quote from the Amazon spokesman in there that pretty much confirms what they are saying. It all comes down to the bottom line. Then why quote non-employees? Also if true no one is making them stay, they will be able to find another job if it pays better. Totally agree with the freedom to change jobs. The story was from The Verve and yeah the Tweet they put in it was as useful as a Manish anonymous source but there are links to Bloomberg articles with more info than the blog has.

The Whole Foods pay will be a bigger game changer for Main Street.

Im enjoying this - a real life "lab experiment" in increasing minimum wages and the other effects it has on total compensation.

ESPPs arent necessarily a bad thing. If they are like my company, I can basically buy stock quarterly, at a discount on the lowest price of the past 90 days, so if I sell right away, I pretty much make money. Besides, for diversification, you dont want to hold too much of your employers stock anyway.

And there's your reason behind this. Just like forcing customers into contracts provides predictable revenue reporting to Wall Street, they'll now have more predictable expenses too. Watch others start going this way too.
Of course, IMO, removing incentive based pay de-incentivizes people to work hard.

Besides, for diversification, you dont want to hold too much of your employers stock anyway. Most discount plans don’t work that way. You usually have to hold the stock you buy at a discount for a certain amount of time or the price you buy at is the last day of the enrollment period, not the lowest price within the period . It’s not arbitrage trading.
