Where do you fall on this argument? Will automation replace human workers and send them home with no future or will automation create new industries of "better" jobs for the vast majority of people?

The guy in the video with the tie has it exactly right. Lower skilled workers can become robot repair people if they can't or won't level-up their skills.
Also, a good example:
In the late 90s when Microsoft tried to corner the server operating system market, they sold it "no longer needing high priced IT people to take care of your servers". There was much hand-wringing, but it turned out to be total bullshit. In fact, Windows sucked so much (and still does), that you actually had to hire more IT people.
Plus, there's plenty of jobs that robots will never be able to do.

Plus, there's plenty of jobs that robots will never be able to do This As a programmer, I can tell you that there is no chaos machine quite like a human. To make anything work "in the wild" takes a huge amount of building out and allowing for all sorts of edge cases. Robotics and AI work well in highly controlled environments - and especially when the human component in the equation is likewise highly-skilled and controlled. For example, pilots and modern planes (which are essentially "robots"). But the robot-friendly systems are incredibly brittle when faced with your average human. And plenty of those around - I think most jobs are plenty safe:)

I can't believe we gave up a job for people with a scan gun to gain the high tech jobs of design and repair of this robot!!! I am guessing it was manufactured in China so I am not counting manufacturing jobs as a plus.

Te progressive plan is to support robotics and fix the problem by instituting a UBI (universal basic income).
Basically just turn us all into dependents.
I say fuck automation. I never used Siri. I dont use Bixby now and do not own an Alexa.
Fuck them.

The end result of the search or whatever task is the same.

I've tried Bixby (good language processor, execution needs work), and I have several Alexa devices (really good for what I use them for) will they "replace" people? meh, maybe people with very little skills who could be trained to other things. I hate UBI - it doesn't reward hard work and ambition; just the opposite

I hate UBI - it doesn't reward hard work and ambition; just the opposite If UBI were used to replace Welfare and Food Stamps etc I could see some point to it which is what Milton Friedman's point was. You can't have both but I am sure that isn't the liberals plan. This article has some supporting links as well. medium.com/basic-income/why-milton-friedman-supported-a-guaranteed-income-5-reasons-da6e628f6070
