Show involves a couple that is shown 3 homes. After touring and discussing, they make an offer to buy one of them. In the episode tonight, the couple wanted to leave the big city of Wasilla, and live off the grid. They were shown glorified shacks, 40 miles from civilization. No running water, no electricity, usually no bathroom, just an outhouse. No paved road to reach the place, in one case, only an ATV could get there. The others weren’t much better. What got me is this couple has 5 daughters. How the hell do you raise them in those conditions? There was no mention of school, I guess they home school. Still, no running water, so they will bathe in the river. No refrigerator. Dad is looking to kill a moose. That will provide 700 lbs of meat. Plus he and Mom will fish for food. Maybe I’m just a soft city dude. This just seems ridiculous.

Pretty sure if there was a show called Buying NYCHA and they toured some of those apartments the people in Alaska would be like WTF is wrong with those people.

I’ve seen this but never with kids.
Some people are just built different. I like taking a dump without walking out in the snow. I like running water. But that’s just me.
Whatever floats your boat. I’m sure kids can be raised properly if done right.

I watch these shows and always torn on what is better, this life in society or out in the wilderness living off the land. I know I could not raise a family out there but it very well could be an option for retirement. If you follow this show up with some "Alaska the Last frontier" or "Life Below Zero, you can get an idea of life once the shack is bought.
Now, there is no Zombies and there will never be Zombies, dead people are not coming back to life as the un-dead to kill us!
What living off the grid in Alaska will give you is a life after the Nuclear Holocaust, rest assure that's coming and we are not all that far away from it. Alaska is where I want to be when holly hell comes raining down.

Alaska is where I want to be when holly hell comes raining down. Not me. I want the Chinese,N Korean, Russian, Pakistani....whatever missle to land next to me. So I can give it the finger as I’m burning to ashes. I have no inclination to live in a post nuclear war world. Depending on how many nukes hit, the radiation cloud may reach you in Alaska. And that’s a tough way to go out!

Amirite?
