Best player in baseball, bar none.
But yeah, Trout, and Harper as well, are now under guaranteed contracts until they are 39 yrs old. Trout should age well and at least the Angels can eventually move Mike to 1B or DH towards the end. Phils can at best move Harper to 1B.
Interesting comparison - Trout's contract is roughly half of what Arod made, compared to overall MLB revenues. Its a relative bargain.

Angels were 9th overall in revenue in 2017, most recent I could find. 334 million / yr. Right up there with the Braves, Mets and Astros. That next tier of big market teams after the drop off from the Yanks/Sox/Dodgers/Cubs/Giants. Phillies were 10th at 329 million. Rangers revenue was 134 million in 2001. So Arods $25M/yr was 18.65% of the Rangers 134M revenue in 2001. Trouts $36M/yr is 10.77% of the Angels 334M revenue in 2017, and MLB revenues are only going up, so its safe to say it may be a little lower, ~9.x% of revenue? .35%:.70% is basically equivalent to 9.x%:18.65%. More or less same difference. Comparatively, its twice as good a deal as Arods back in the day. blogs.fangraphs.com/what-alex-rodriguezs-contract-would-look-like-today/Adjusted to 2019 numbers, Arod's deal would have been $590 million!! Now you can argue that Arod played SS/3B, where his production / WAR would have been higher compared to others at his position, than Trout in the OF.

Mets are still paying Bobby Bonilla so...... Bobby would have been better off taking the money up front. The big dummy.
