Today it is..biggest upset ever. January 12 1969. Superbowl III in Miami. The Colts were up to a 19 point favorite against the AFL Champion Jets. Joe Namath had led the Jets to an 11-3 regular season record...The Colts were 13-1. Earl Morral had replaced an injured John Unitas and had dominated the NFL in 1968. The Jets scored first and led 7-0 when Matt Snell ran in from the left side on a 3 yd run... The Jets secondary played brilliantly. Johnny Sample and Randy Beverly both had key interception in the end zone..Baltimore was able to move the ball but could not score in the first half.. Jimmy Orr for the Colts was wide open after a lateral pass back to Morrall before halftime...he was wide open for a sure touchdown..however before the snap the sun came out and blinded Earl Morrall and he could not see a wide open Jimmy Orr who also blended in the Colts Band who was also wearing blue....watch the play...It was devine intervention...The Jets intercepted the pass and a dejected Colts team trailed at the half. In the second half the Jets ran and ran and ran...Matt Snell and Emerson Boozer held the ball and the Jets were able to kick 3 more times to take a 16-0 lead... Namath did not even throw once in the forth quarter... Baltimore scored a late TD but history had been written..The New York Jets were WORLD CHAMPIONS. It was a game for the ages....and it belongs to our beloved Jets....

however before the snap the sun came out and blinded Earl Morrall and he could not see a wide open Jimmy Orr who also blended in the Colts Band who was also wearing blue. This must be where Rex got the idea for our kick returner (I believe TJ Graham) to lie down in the EZ against Buffalo earlier this year. And to think, Buffalo still hired him after that. Time to rewrite a new chapter in our SB history -- you listening Mr. Macaggnan?

I remember watching this game, and how exciting it was to see the Jets in the Super Bowl. Namath used Don Maynard as a decoy mostly that day. Maynard had a big game against the Raiders in the AFC Championship. Curt Gowdy called the game. Had a great voice for broadcasting. I don't think I sat down the entire game. Great, great day!
