Just goes to show how far left the Democratic party has shifted. Reagan was a Dem for a big part of his life too. Reagan and Trump were Democrat back when the Democrats were for the working class and America-first. The poles have shifted. For those of us old enough to remember it is quite remarkable how far they have gone. WTF are you trying to say here? Reagan and Trump are not close in age or the years they were Democrats.

Yes but up until about 10 years ago the Democratic Party was a party that appealed to the things I stated. So both Trump and Reagan fit into that window. Now the Democrats are led by their far left socialist/open borders base. And the power shift is complete. Nancy and the establishment have capitulated.

Military training for a military gun makes sense right. Obviously. I was making the point that we would let someone who is 18 use a gun in the military while not letting them buy one until they are 21. Kind of like the you can go to war but can't have a beer in a bar argument. How bout it you're military you can do either at 18 for special privilege. Problem solved.

My thoughts exactly but I don't see liberals going for that. When I went to Air Force Tech School in Biloxi, MS the Airman's club on base had a drinking age of 18. Everywhere else it was 21. I have heard that has stopped since then.

Kennedy would have trouble getting the nomination these days as a (D). Actually, you could argue both parties have shifted leftward.

Write a one page bill with background checks. Dont add in all the bullshit leftist pipe dreams that people arent going to vote for. One logical idea I heard floated today - by a Rep from Illinois - would be raising the purchase age of any 'semi' weapon to 21. The idea being so many of these mental issues and struggles stem from schooling, keeping that cohort from being able to legally purchase powerful weapons would likely yield real results. We don't trust sub-21s (let's be charitable) to do much of anything - seems crazy that we'd trust them with that sort of weapon. As far as things go, would be a relatively easy law to implement and police. FWIW - the Dayton shooter got off 41 shots inside 60 seconds. It has merit, that idea. But wasn't the Dayton shooter 22 yrs old?

Are we also raising the age of eligibility for enlisting in the military? Well, presumably the kids in the military are both trained and vetted, both formally and up-close-and-personal. The idea being floated is about ownership only - not usage (as in a professional situation). And like Hotman suggested, maybe you offer a special dispensation for ownership @ 18 for military, and even LEO?

Both parties have had huge issues because it takes money to get to office and even more to keep it.

My libertarian side is going to punch me in the face for saying this, but the Dayton shooter had a 100 round drum of ammo. Does any civilian really NEED (and boy I hate the word need) that?
And I'm late to the party, but I hate these people comparing the two shootings over the weekend. The Dayton shooter has more in common with the Sandy Hook shooter than the El Paso shooter.

so it turns out the el paso shooter is a hard core progressive and the dayton shooter self-identified as a 'leftist' not hearing it on cnn though. huh. Jumping to conclusions helps how? Dayton shooter had a 100 round drum magazine. i'd like to read the El Pasos guy manifesto...can't find it...wondering what is really in it...don't trust the polarizing left wing...and racists like AOC
