Put the NY Post back on the map. Generally supported LE, added some trashier stuff I could have done without, but the man knew the business and how to sell a rag in NYC.
Aaaaaaand drank like a sailor on shore-leave.
For this reason, RIHSB

He was good with the Sixers and Rockets but injuries slowed him down after that.
Didn't know he was such a drinker.

Right up there with the dude who mowed the lawn at Yankee Stadium I guess. This guy? I can see how he wouldnt appeal to a Frenchman. He never writhed in fake pain on a soccer pitch holding his shin. He was good with the Sixers and Rockets but injuries slowed him down after that. Didn't know he was such a drinker. Ha. See what you did there. Yes, he had a drinking rep, but that was part of the culture back then. Almost all the good writers and Editors were famous/infamous for mixing business with pleasure. It was a badge of honor to bang out columns "from the barstool" as it were. Prolly wasnt much different for the Boston writers I'm guessing. Hey, did you see the nice tribute to Nick Cafardo during Yankees old timer day? The Yank's are pure class boy howdy.

Dunleavy (from Current Affair years) was the inspiration for Robert Downy Jr's character in Natural Born Killers. I didnt know about Yankees/Cafardo. He was old school, even-tempered and fair, sticking to facts, not about sound bites. Worked his way up from local rags. Only 62 with 2 kids.
