you gotta wonder, though, if bowles was hired to somehow help geno become a better qb. the qb issue had to be in the discussion. The Jets will try to land one of the two top QB's in the draft without doing too much damage to the rest of the draft, if they can't land either QB Smith will start and, I can't believe I am saying this, that is not such a bad thing. Bowles will strengthen the secondary as noted, corners and Safety, hell, solidifying the corner position will assist Pryor all but itself. With some offensive line help, one more receiver stepping up I see Geno doing well and the team winning a fair amount of games. Geno will learn to manage the game, as far as when to take risks and where to take. Again, with time to throw and receivers we are good. We lost a lot of games by small amounts and it was because QB's went over the top on us, we could not prevent them from scoring when it mattered.

Check out the list of HC's Bowles has played and coached under: Played for: Bruce Arians Joe Gibbs George Seifert Coached under: Doug Williams Al Groh Butch Davis Bill Parcells Wade Phillips Tony Sporano Andy Reid Bruce Arians There are a lot of "winners" on that list. Sporano and Davis flamed out, but each of the got their teams to the playoffs once (while Bowles was on the staff). I'm pretty sure neither the Browns or Fins have been to the playoffs since. Plus, I think it speaks volumes that Andy Reid picked Bowles to take over the Philly D when Castillo flamed out during the season.

The more I read the more I like, it's unusual as a Jet fan to find nothing but positive opinions about a move we made. Its refreshing.

We lost a lot of games by small amounts and it was because QB's went over the top on us, we could not prevent them from scoring when it mattered. I think the Jets will be light-years better if they upgrade both guard postions. Colon, Winters and Oboushi are not good. If they had above average G play, it would really help Mangold, Brick, and Breno. That would immediately improve the Offense. Just getting Milliner and McDougle back is a big boost at CB. If the Jets sign a #1 CB, Milliner would be a great #2, and McDougle can be the nickel. Rahim Moore should be a free agent target so he can play FS with Pryor at SS. I also think Chan Gailey will help Geno do much better. According to Bill Cowher Gailey is a great play caller who plays to his teams' strengths. Fred Jackson said that Gailey excels at getting the ball to his players in space. If this is true, that means that many of Geno's first reads should be open. I really think Gailey should consider calling the game from the booth and focus on picking up the tempo enough that O is lined up while the QB mic is still open (like Chip Kelly does) than Gailey can actually help Geno with his reads. Finally, I'd love to see the Jets draft a RB in the 2d round. Your RB touches the ball, or has it faked to him, more than any non QB on the team. You need to spend a high draft pick to ensure that you get a special one that can play 3 downs and pick up blitzes.

Multiple sites gave us an "A" for the hire.

Multiple sites gave as an "A" for the hire. -crossing fingers- I've never heard this many and specifically, these particular people praising anything the Jets have ever done like this. Not even when we went and spanked NE in divisionals. They still treated us like a bunch of damn halfwits.

We could have used a time machine and brought Vince Lombardi back to the future to be the Jets coach and that hack Serby would have said the Jets screwed up. He's not as bad as Girlish... errrr... Manish, but he isn't far from him. I rarely bother reading articles from either of them anymore.

The Jets are probably going to have to sign at least 2 corners (Since Wilson will be gone as well) and draft another one somewhat high.

First off, I love the hire!
But I have one question. With Peterson, Cro and real solid safety play, Arizona was 29th in pass D. And Bowles is a secondary coach before anything. Why so poor in this department with all this talent?

Because there are only 2 defensive stats that matter... Points and Take Aways. Arizona was 5th in the league in points giving up only 19.18 points per game. They were tied for 13th in Take Aways with 25. The league leader had 34. The Jets had 13. I am so tired of D's being judged on yards when they are meaningless as compared to points and turnovers. Freaking mumbles has won more division titles than I care to count fielding his bend but don't break 2 gap scheme.

I think we got a good one. Just don't understand why he wants recycled mediocrity to coordinate the O.
