Obviously I'm in the minority, but I am not a Harvin fan (even at a re-negotiated price). The guy has been so nicked up over the last couple of seasons that I have serious concerns about whether he is ever going to play a full season again and how much of a fit he is on the outside. I'd rather spend the money on Torrey Smith or Crabtree. Its not that I'm necessarily anti-Harvin (I think he has value), but I didn't quite understand the "trade for Harvin" and then "sign Kerley" in short succession. Kerley is a poor man's Harvin. Both are versatile slot receivers who work well when they get the ball in space. I don't see how they operate on the field together for the long term. Well, they can, but not without sacrificing something else.
With Decker and one of these guys, the Jets are 1 WR short of having a legit WR corp. If, by some miracle, A. Cooper falls to us, Cooper/Decker/Kerley is a real group. Harvin/Decker/Kerley? Eh - I just don't see that working as a group. I don't think Harvin agrees with the characterization that he is solely a slot receiver, but I'm not sure we build a team on what Harvin thinks he can be. If we were going to get rid of Kerley and sign Harvin to a more reasonable deal, I'd be OK with that, but that's not how it went down.

I like Crabtree as a player, but we already have too much money tied up in the WR position. Get me a young cheap stud in the draft and maybe keep Harvin. I wouldn't renegotiate with Harvin just yet either. I want to make sure he's turned himself around before we give him any guaranteed money. What I really wanted to do was not trade for Harvin and sign Cobb instead of Kerley. Then draft Cooper/Parker/DGB/White/Strong. I agree with this. With Decker and Kerley already signed for several years, we cannot add keep Harvin and add Crabtree, we would have way too much tied up in the position to add another free agent. A young cheap guy in a deep WR draft is the way to go.

Harvin and Kerley are very different receivers IMO. Kerley isnt nearly as dangerous after the catch as Harvin is, and isn't a deep threat either. Ideally a group of Decker/Harvin/Kerley/DGB would be outstanding. You have a ton of versatility there.

Don't forget the draft pick either. We lose a high 4th if we keep Harvin. No thanks. He has a bad attitude and barely showed anything. I'd trade him somewhere else and recoup the draft pick we lost. Draft Cooper. Then draft offensive linemen.

For the record; If i was the Mac, I would cut harvin, save the 4th round pick and sign crabtree. I'm 100% all about drafting DGB/Parker/Cooper/Hardy
Harvin's a talent, but he's too hot and cold for my liking, and outside of the SEA superbowl game, he's done nothing since 2012. If we're gonna talk about pedigrees, lets not forget WHO Crabtree is and was. He dominated at Texas Tech like few before him, and has the tools to be a stud WR, one who'll age much better than Harvin.

Any chance David Nelson has anything left? He does know Chans offense.

As I reflect on this more; all things being equal, you have to like crabtree over harvin if we got to pick one or the other. Lets say you're gonna sign one to a 4 year deal. Easy decision. Crabtree.
