Reasoning
If you're taking calls on a qb, you have no qb. We have no qb. Lawrence will not be avaible. Wilson is the more dynamic qb between him and Fields. I believe JD when he says he values his draft picks too much. I think he's taking himself out of the watson running unless the price significantly drops.
Pros
Excellent pocket presence and pocket movement, keys for the lafleur offense
Resets QB contract clock, allowing funds to be allocated to the rest of the team for the next 4-5 years easily
Gives JD and RS "their guy"
Wild card pro... Chris simms, who has been one of the most accurate qb evaluators in the media in the last few years, has wilson ahead of lawrence. This means almost nothing, but he's actually gone against the grain in pretty much every one of the last few drafts and has been correct in his qb evaluations. He had lamar jackson over Darnold and mayfield, and had justin herbert and jordan love over tua. Who knows, maybe he's onto something or on something, but this is just a teeny bit comforting
Allows us to keep the capital it would take to get watson
Gets us extra capital in the Darnold trade
Cons
Prevents the king's ransom drop down
Wilson is a late riser, maybe he's phoney
Darnold will be HOF somewhere else
Might be less attractive to certain free agents if it doesn't appear we are zeroing in on watson before the draft
