Is this the same Mark Collins who coached D-Line with Rex in ? 2009-2010? I think that was Mark Carrier actually....which I always found odd that he was a dline coach but when he played he was a DB.

@kmart_LI 4m4 minutes ago More #NYJ hires: Mike Caldwell (AHC/ILBs coach), Joe Danna (DBs), Mark Collins (OLBs), Karl Dorrell (WRs), Robby Brown (quality control/off) Wasn't there some talk of Caldwell potentially being DC? In any case, glad to have him. He's a strong LB coach. Maybe the fact that Kacy Rodgers got the DC tag is what led the Jets to give Caldwell the Assistant Head Coach title as well since just coaching the LB would be a lateral move from Arizona. What does Assistant Head Coach mean anyway? Next in line if the Head Coach is assassinated? Or more like holMEs being named captain?

What does Assistant Head Coach mean anyway? Next in line if the Head Coach is assassinated? Or more like holMEs being named captain? I looked into this last week. 1. Act as enforcer of the HCs plan - supervise all other areas and provide extra management so the HC does not stretch himself too thin. They might have some say over the play calling but usually not 2. Generally, as is the face with Caldwell, an assistant HC is also a positional coach, so the extra responsibility is more of a title/salary bump and show of good faith 3. If the HC is for whatever reason unavailable or ejected or whatever, the assistant HC would fill in unless the HC or front office says otherwise Really varies from team to team beyond that
