Wow
Rex told him he'd have a job if he couldn't land the Giants DC job then goes and hires Dunbar behind his back.

Wow Rex told him he'd have a job if he couldn't land the Giants DC job then goes and hires Dunbar behind his back. Really? Didn't hear that. That's brutal. Johnson spent last season with the Bills and told the News that he had been informed by Rex Ryan that he would have a job waiting for him if he didn’t land the Giants defensive coordinator position. But after the Giants went with Steve Spagnuolo as their defensive coordinator, Johnson was left out in the cold by the Bills when Ryan announced his defensive coaching staff that didn’t include him.

It also says he was on the Bills staff and he and Dunbar switched places so I guess that means he was the Bills DL coach? If so that sounds good. Though it also mentions there's no link between him and Bowles so that's a little odd. weren't we hearing all kinds of names from Bowles assistants to take that spot?

He was the Bills DL coach last year and was on the Pats defensive staff for 14 years prior to that. To my knowledge, there were never any names mentioned as the potential DL coach here. Kacy Rodgers was the DL coach in Miami and now he's the DC here. Anyway, Johnson is one of the most highly regarded defensive assistants in the league.

I'm very happy with this hire.
One thing that Pepper has in common with Bowles is that they are both Parcells guys.

Getting Kacy Rodgers and Pepper Johnson under Bowles is huge. Really happy about the way it's come together on defense... Heads will roll this fall!

When was the last time you were this excited about a coaching staff going into a season because of their credentials and football acumen? Was it Rex? Parcells and his staff maybe? And before that?
Can't wait to see how all this plays out.
