Zero Superbowl's without cheating hardly puts you in the discussion for best ever. So Otto Graham, Dan Marino and John Elway are all out of the discussion? Wha? Elway WON two SB . . . did you forget?

Because he can't get there. The Mark Sanchez paradox: as long as he continues to miss the playoffs, his highly ranked playoff QBR remains intact.

Oh you mean the salary cap violations?? Um, ok . . . Has the Patriots organization cheated? Do they actively look for ways to cheat? Yes and yes. Is that the only reason they are good? No. You can't making your own teams cheating go away just because someone else 'cheated' elsewhere ....

Color me nonplussed - but when were there ever allegations that the Broncos cheated their way to two SB victories?? www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A28969-2004Sep17.htmlIn December 2001, the Broncos were fined $968,000 and lost a third-round pick in the 2002 draft for violations reportedly relating to $29 million in deferred payments to quarterback John Elway and running back Terrell Davis. On Thursday, the league announced that the Broncos have been fined $950,000 and will lose a third-round selection in next year's draft for circumventing the salary cap between 1996 and '98. The penalties were set in an agreement between the league, the Players Association and the Broncos and resolve a case against the team brought before the sport's special master by the NFL's Management Council in January 2003, the league announced. The penalties could be viewed as further vindication for Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis, who has said in the past that Broncos owner Pat Bowlen should be suspended for salary cap violations. Davis has contended that the Broncos' circumvention of the salary cap helped them win the Super Bowl in the 1997 and '98 seasons.

The whole LaGarrette Blount thing was fishy this season - he played a big part in the Pats playoff run. Shall we vacate the Pats season if tampering turns up? What say you?

No. You can't making your own teams cheating go away just because someone else 'cheated' elsewhere .... Um, ok. Not trying to make "my" team's cheating go away. Just suggesting that if Brady is excluded from certain discussions because he either is a cheater or benefited from cheating, then Elway absolutely must be excluded too.

Elway absolutely must be excluded too. And this is why I dislike cheating and cheaters . . . Because like 13th century friars discussing how many angels fit on the head of a pin - we have to get into discussions about what is cheating and who it helped and how much. Right? So now - above - you make a blanket, no grey area absolutist pronouncement about that very grey, dark pool of cheat. It's ironic.

The whole LaGarrette Blount thing was fishy this season - he played a big part in the Flats* playoff run. Shall we vacate the Flats* season if tampering turns up? What say you? Among Spygate, DeflateGate and BlountThingieGate, I actually think that BlountThingieGate is by far the worst if true. It will be buried though because of the DeflateGate feeding frenzy and because Pitt didn't "have" to cut him and the other teams in the league didn't "have" to let him pass through waivers. That said, if true, I think it is horribly anti-competitive (by both Blount and NE) and deserving of harsh punishment. Vacating the season though? The NFL is not the NCAA. The 2014-15 season is in the books, for good or for bad.

Which also MASSIVELY points out to me why we have that thing called 'sportsmanship' anyhow - essentially an agreement to play within the rules of the game, both written and unwritten - so that the good nature of sport doesn't have to devolve into weenis-y legalese.
