I know there's a lot of discussions about drafting another WR early or going after one of the big FAs (if they're not franchised). Some will depend on what we do with Harvin. Got to thinking and wanted to see what people's thoughts/feelings would be if the Jets went in a different direction (assume for a second that we re-work Harvin's deal) and went after one of the top TEs in FA (J. Thomas, J. Cameron) and tried to create a "super group" with Amaro (who hopefully progresses in year 2)? Yes, as much as I hate to admit it, I am basing my idea on what the Flats* had with Gronk and Hernandez (before he became a murderer). Thoughts?

Baby blankets are good for any Jet Qb.

Yeah I was thinking of an Owen Daniels or Jermaine Gresham type. An older vet guy who can hopefully help Amaro along a bit.

If you're going after or developing a QB with a strong, accurate short game then yes this makes a lot of sense.
The pats invested heavily in that 2 TE offense as a way of adding an additional layer of protection for Brady and improve the ability to throw short and mid range passes as Brady's long pass accuracy fell off and with age the probability of season-ending injuries increases. It worked with Brady because he's a very accurate passer (especially with deflated balls). If you have a less accurate QB throwing all those short passes then you create a lot of problems for yourself. A less accurate QB needs the field stretched and questionable passes can be salvaged by the work of the receiver getting beneath the ball and fighting for it. Not as much room to let the receiver help out on the pass with those short passes.

We need a blocking type tight end not another pass catcher. Cameron is a freak when healthy., but he's a huge question mark because of health. I'd rather go for a guy like Spaeth ...Gresham is another big body too.

I'd love one of them, but I doubt either of those top TEs aren't resigned or tagged. I think our most realistic option is signing Rob Housler from the Cardinals. They're up against the cap so we might be able to get him. He won't wow you, but he'd be great to pair with Amaro. Also this TE draft is pretty weak, but I wouldn't mind grabbing Jesse James from Penn State in the middle rounds. He's 6'7 and 254 pounds. His production wasn't amazing, but he has a high ceiling.
