Busy day for the Jets out of nowhere. A lot of people were saying we'd cut both of these guys based on age alone - glad they're staying on board.

I would of kept one of them...probably Pace...regardless it's good to have some veteran depth. Hopefully they still get an elite pass rushing OLB.

Bowles must have a plan for Babin. Maybe it means a move back to DE for Coples?

At this point in time worth exercising the option but I assume that they could still be cut with little cap penalty if Mac finds better replacements.

I agree - gives us some flexibility heading into FA. Depending on what we do in free agency or the draft, one or both might still be gone before the season starts.

Glad Pace is back....he's been a solid Jet player
Having those guys in place, along with IK and Trevor makes OLB not such an immediate need

I get Babin, but I don't get Pace.

Just gives us more flexibility heading into FA and the draft. I still don't think that either will be on the roster by the start of the season. Maybe Babin, but Pace is totally done.
At least Babin can still make an impact when you tell him to just pin his ears back and get after the QB.

Pace is very underrated as an edge setter in run defense. I think the Jets will bring a pass rushing OLB in and I'm sure Babin is just insurance in case they can't get one in FA. It's smart both ways.

You can argue that Pace played more but Babin played strictly as a pass rusher last year, meaning he was fresher on passing plays, and he made zero impact on the pass rushing game.

No brainer to keep these guys in my opinion. While we may have grand plans for upgrading the LB corps we still need some depth and "hold the fort" type guys who are veterans and can be counted on, even if they're far from spectacular. Pace started 16 games. If we acquire via FA or Draft someone else who can step in and be starting in place of him by midseason then great. Pace would be a good guy coming off the bench for 20 snaps per game. We can cut guys like him and Babin loose once we're sure we have their replacements.

They can still be cut any time McCags finds a more suitable replacement.
