Dave Caldwell: Hey John what do you think about this prospect? John Idzik: I think he is great! We should target him in the first round. Dave Caldwell (to the rest of the Jags draft room): take him off the board. Not interested.

To consult on how not to general manage? Makes a lot of sense in a reverse psychology general manager way.
Good hire Dave.

Speaking of the jaguars did we ever hire Gene Smith as a scout?
That guys gm career makes Idzik seem adequate.

He is their cap guy now...as long as he stays away from the gm role I think it's a good hire.

Just landed consulting Job Former Jets GM John Idzik lands job as consultant for Jaguars: sources Former Jets general manager John Idzik, who was fired after just two seasons on the job in New York, has found a new team to work for. Idzik has been hired as a consultant for the Jaguars to help with salary cap management, according to sources. Idzik, who recently moved to Florida, will begin working for the Jaguars in March. That it took several months for Idzik to find another team to work for is no surprise given the way he was chased out of town by a rabid fan base that was desperate for change. At the end of his run with the Jets, members of Gang Green Nation even went so far as to post billboards and fly a plane over practice demanding his firing. The Jets were 8-8 in their first year under Idzik, surpassing expectations, but dismally underachieved at 4-12 in 2014. That prompted owner Woody Johnson to clean house and fire Idzik and Rex Ryan on December 29. www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/ex-jets-gm-john-idzik-lands-job-consultant-jaguars-article-1.2129496Rabid fandbase GFY try being a jet fan you cocksucker

So he's back to being just a cap guy. I remember that there were some posters who tried to convince me that he had any kind of significant personnel experience in his background during his 1st year with us. He was first hired by Tampa Bay as a "Pro Personnel Assistant." Which means that he was probably making copies of the scouting reports.

I guess anyone can be considered a cap guy these days. All you have to do is not spend a dime and you're guaranteed to be under the cap. Great hire for them.

I admit I'm surprised. He recovered faster than Tanny. I thought he would be unemployed for a longer stretch.

In 50% of his drafts, Idzik drafted a rookie of the year.
Just saying. He probably lead with that in the interview. I would have.

I said this elsewhere, but bringing in Idzik to help get a handle on your cap, is fine. Smart even. Guy was a wizard....
Just don't ask the daft c()nt what to do when you spend it.

The guy has been pretty successful at all levels of his career except as a gm. Lots of teams have cap guys and your team will be screwed if you don't manage it well...see The saints and the Cowboys.
