I don't think our QB situation is any worse than it has been since Favre. Not sure what you mean by this. Since before we got Favre and had Pennington? Since after Favre got hurt and our season tanked? Since we let Favre go and got Sanchez? Favre played well for the Jets before he got hurt.

This Jets team would have been very good in just about every version of the NFL but the current one.

In a long time. Now I certainly know on paper doesn't mean jack squat, but there are really good pieces in place, and we still have the # 6 overall pick. I would like another OL(Dozier might be that guy) and a rusher, but I think us Jets fans have reason for optimism. A guy like Shorts at WR would be a nice addition as well. I'm guessing we will add a RB in the draft yet as well. Really liking the roster makeup. If Gailey can coax average to slightly above average play out of one of the QBs, we may be ok. Yeah...we win the "on paper" superbowl .

I would have liked one more free agent Guard (Rob Sims?), but I really feel like Free Agency was conducted with the draft in mind. They know at 6 they can get an edge rusher or Mariota, and the draft is deep enough at RB that a good one will be available in round 2. So, the remaining holes can be easily filled at the draft. The big question is what do you do if Mariota falls to the Jets at 6 and some team blows their doors off with an offer. For example what if Cleveland offers both of their first round picks this year as well as next years first round pick? Next years QB class is much deeper with the top 3 likely being Connor Cook, Cardale Jones, and Christian Hackenberg. If the Jets have 2 first round picks in 2016, they probably could find a way to trade into the top 3. Frankly, right now, I like all 3 of those guys more than Mariota. I think the smart play may be to position the Jets to have the assets to trade up in 2016 to get their QB.

If the staff thinks Marcus can transition to the NFL and become a legit starter, then you draft him and don't worry about trading down even if a lucrative trade exists. As far as next years QB class, everyone always likes "next years" QBs better at this point. We see it all the time. Those guys you mentioned will have just as many question marks as the guys who are in this class.

We also need one (at least) solid linebacker.

If they don't believe he can transition and he falls to them at 6, they may land a king's ransom for the pick. Remember what the Skins gave up to select RGIII.

True, I thought you were implying they trade him no matter what if there was a lucrative deal in place. Obviously if they don't like him then trade the pick away, that's a no brainer.

If we get the chosen one, Jameis Winston, then we should be OK. Then again, I know you have an irrational hatred of FSU - mostly for gargling more balls than your school - so you would never go for that. Hey man, good to see you. I hope you are doing well.

If he's on the board at 6, the Jets have to take him. period. Then, the Off-season would be complete.
