Expect a pass rusher with that 6th pick. Mariota won't be available and this draft has some very good pass rushers that will be there when we're on the clock. That's the prevailing theory at the moment. Ray, Beasley Fowler - all seem to be possible targets... Lot of pressure though to expect them to be the difference maker from day 1. Woulda preferred if they signed someone to fill the gap It's just either really expensive or difficult to get a legitimate pass rusher in free agency. Those kind of guys are usually locked up until they're declining. You have to find them in the draft unless you want to settle for an Orakpo on the downside of his career. I'd prefer to get younger and faster at that position.

We will win the Super Bowl 1000-0 and then go on to win the Stanley Cup.Speaking of which.....the Rangers do have a good shot this year.

Weren't the Jets 14th against the pass and 5th against the run last year with NO cornerbacks? The idea that both those rankings get better is not far fetched.

Thank you, sorry but this is the most ridiculous post on here. Yes our D has definitely been upgraded, yes there will be a few teams that may be held to only FG's, but teams will score, many teams. If we have one shutout and 4 games where the appoint team does not get a TD I will consider this D amongst the best. The question is, how many teams can we keep out of double digets, or below 20? I think we have to be above 21 every game to even think about 10-6 or 12-4. Our D will be good, but we will still need to score. I am not predicting our record, I just think this is what we need to do, it's a numbers game.

Considering the teams we faced last year, Pats twice, Broncos and Chargers with our constantly rotating secondary consisting of guys you hadn't even seen the last week, that stat is unbelievable.

Yes, they did very well for a cheap price tag, pieced together group. The real problem was the Jets ranked 29th in giveways v. takeaways. -11 turnover differential. Jets need to fix this and we should be pretty good.

Don't get me wrong, the defense is definitely going to be good, possibly great, but I'm sick of hearing about how "great" Rex's defenses were based on statistical rankings. The two never really seemed to reflect each other, always coming across as something of a paper tiger.

Fair points but let's not forget two losses came against the eventual SB winners and in those games the Jets lost to the Patriots by a grand total of 3 points....combined.

Stats can be decpetive. Yes, we were 14th in passing yards allowed last year, however, that is based on the 7th fewest opponent passing attempts per game, which means we were below average in terms of yardage per pass attempt. We were 30th in TD passes allowed, 21st in completion percentage allowed, 30th in QB Rating against and tied for last in the league in interceptions. Although not just a passing defense stat, we were 26th in the league in red zone defense. The average QB rating against us last year was 101.6. To put that in perspective, Sparklepony, Brees, Wilson and Luck on all had passer ratings lower than this. On the average game last year, the QBs playing against us played at a Hall of Fame level. Only 3 QBs had a better passer rating than 101.6 for the season: Rodgers, Romo and Roethlisberger.
Our passing defense was not good last year -- forget the stats, all you had to do was watch the games. The 3rd down conversions, the blown coverages, the long TD passes allowed, lack of interceptions, etc. The good news is that it sure appears to be fixed for 2015.
