Stats can be decpetive. Yes, we were 14th in passing yards allowed last year, however, that is based on the 7th fewest opponent passing attempts per game, which means we were below average in terms of yardage per pass attempt. We were 30th in TD passes allowed, 21st in completion percentage allowed, 30th in QB Rating against and tied for last in the league in interceptions. Although not just a passing defense stat, we were 26th in the league in opponent red zone defense. The average QB rating against us last year was 101.6. To put that in perspective, Sparklepony, Brees, Wilson and Luck on all had passer ratings lower than this. On the average game last year, the QBs playing against us played at a Hall of Fame level. Only 3 QBs had a better passer rating than 101.6 for the season: Rodgers, Romo and Roethlisberger. Our passing defense was not good last year -- forget the stats, all you had to do was watch the games. The 3rd down conversions, the blown coverages, the long TD passes allowed, lack of interceptions, etc. The good news is that it sure appears to be fixed for 2015. Thank you for doing what I was too lazy to do; this is exactly what I was hinting at with my previous post. Nothing better illustrates the drek Rex was spewing about how good his defenses were than this.
